I've seen some pretty strong opinions both ways on this. When there is a mass power outage, run the generator whenever you want or at a "socially responsible hour"? |

Just an example.... Day 3 of no power... it’s kind of like camping only there are people... people who fire up their generators at 5AM every day. We have one too, we and 90% of other people just wait until a socially responsible hour to fire them up, but there’s always that one guy. |

Do you have any trepidation about running your AC at night? It's the same thing. Honestly, I sleep better with the hum. I have airplanes, and expressway and a park all within earshot and still sleep. It's my wife reading the kindle that bugs me the most |

If its right outside your bedroom window or something, I don't think its out of line to politely ask for it to be moved a little bit. The block just east of us has no power, and generators have been running nonstop since the storm ended on Monday. A few have them in the garage with the door open about 2' for ventilation which does cut down on the noise a bit. When I've had to use mine, it runs 100% of the time until the power comes back on. I only turn it off to add more gas. Generators may be a matter of life and death as you don't know what they might be powering in the home. A lawnmower or snowblower is different because you do not "have" to use those at 6am or 11pm. |

Although later he did say he wouldnt mind but the neighbor his running it right outside his bedroom window. And it became a big argument on the community facebook page but id say 90% of them said run it all night why the hell not? In 1999, when that transformer station in Chicago caught fire in August on 100F degree days for 3-4 days, we lived in a high-rise. That's when they were lining up port-a-potties on the streets and carrying elderly people down 30 flights of stairs on stretchers to get them out. ComEd offered to pay for all the spoiled food in our fridge/freezer. As I filled in the form, I suddenly found quite a few steaks that I had "forgotten" were in there. Got a check for about $300-$400. |

Just curious if there is an ordinance in Oak Forest that you can’t run a generator this time at night..... 124 Comments, most saying run it and fuck anyone who has a problem with it One person bowed to the bullying My hubby just turned ours off cuz of the neighbors I say keep it on. I mean, Im a sound sleeper but I really cant believe this is even a thing people would complain about. Even for this era of complainers, this one is crazy. |

most people ran out and bought the harbor freight smoker/generator. those bastards are loud. I inherited my FIL's old honda's he used for camping. they purr comparitively. But i live out in the country so I'd just have a loud one if i was to purchase one. |

The generators we'd use on construction sites were always loud as fuck. We'd lean a piece of plywood against them to bounce the sound away. Neighbors loved us. |
