Not to ruin this thread, but I was twice on indefinite Saturday Jug. I refused to go, and eventually they offered me a plea bargain (two Saturdays and "please act normal"). I took it. |

I've spent three nights in different lock-ups. Once in Evanston, once in Skokie, once at 51st and Wentworth. My partner's brother and I are trying to help my partner get an early release from his 31 and 29 year non-concurrent sentences. |

There was a room with a bunch of beds in it that was mostly dark, and most people were sleeping . I of course was terrified to actually go to sleep but i think i did nod off for a bit eventually. But then just outside of that room was another room that was lighted, had a big table, some chairs and the TV |

It has been all over the board due to two fucking slimebags. If I was in General population ,it would have been bad but I was in Division 10, the mental health ward. Wasn't that bad, dorm like you where in a room with about 50 other guys. They kept you pretty doped up. They maxxed out your meds so basically all I did was sleep and read. Couple guys I would talk to rest where not worth it. My parents sent some books so I always had new things to read and I would trade them. Plus,I had money to buy food . They only bad thing with that was the guys with nothing always begging. I would always buy extra for the ones I liked so I would give them some. They only rough parts was when you had to actually go to court. You get up at 3am,take meds, then slowly and I mean slowly make your way to the main pen,sit in a space with about 100 people in a space for 50. before you even get on the bus you go through 3 strip searches. then you get your food for the day,2 baloney sandwiches and a juice. get to the courthouse, sit for a couple of hours till you are moved to your court room. talk to your lawyer for like 3 min tops. Then in front of the judge for 2 min if lucky. then back to holding until everyone is done, then back on the bus. Holding cell, strip search , back to your division, strip search, back into your area. If you are lucky they saved your food tray from diner and you have some stone cold food to fill your stomach till the next morning. You would get back to you cot at around 7pm. Longest days of my life. almost the entire time you are cuffed to another person. The guards are for the most part okay, just dont act like a dick. I saw one of the nicest ones ever knock a guy out cold for spiting at the feet of a nurse. One guy used to bring a DVD player in on weekends and play movies so he would have an easy time. Then again I was in the crazy ward so there was not many violent people there. I say to this day,I been in Cook County and I been in a State mental hospital, give me County any day of the week. |

Almost did. I left a little before the paddywagon came to pick everyone up from a fight at the White Castle on Belmont and Harlem. Would have been at least a night since we were all drinking underage. |

One day in the lock up cell for me. I was 18. I was pissing outside cuz I had to go. Had a beer in my hand. It was outside a frat house. I ran when the cop stopped me so it was three charges. Public intoxication, underage drinking and resisting arrest. It was actually no big deal. I thought it was at the time. Cuz I eventually had to tell my parents about it. I needed the car for the court date. It was in Bloomington, Normal. That was the biggest deal. Telling them. I tell the story now to friends and family. They ask me what was it like to be in jail for one night. I tell them it was no big deal. That I don't even know. I was so drunk that I passed out on the cot with in minutes of them throwing me in the cell. Next day, I woke up, they gave me a bagel and orange juice. Then they released my ass. I was solo in my jail cell. So I didn't get ass raped in case you were wondering. |

My older brother worked at Stateville in the early 80's. That place was no picnic then. I have known a guy since I was 10 who has worked on and off for the family ever since. In the 70's Sonny was what was referred to as a "barn boss" at Cook County. Which meant he was the leader of an entire tier. And at the time, he was only 18. |
