It really depends on the time of the year and what is going on in the world. Here are my top 5 podcasts over the last couple years. 1) Parkins and Spiegel Show 2) 538 Politics- I don't listen to this as much since things have settled down. 3) 31 Thoughts Friedman and Marek 4) Freakonomics and No Stupid Questions- Dubner hosts both. 5) A variety of The Athletic hockey podcasts |

Pardon My Take (general sports) Spittin' Chicklets (hockey) The Dave Portnoy Show with Eddie & Co. Red Line Radio (Chicago sports) The Dog Walk (short episodes on pretty much anything) Laugh all you want, but Barstool has the best audio content out there if you're a sports fan. |

After taking several long drives over the last year and sampling podcasts, I have to say, as a group, they suck. Even the good ones have more clunker shows than hits. They are overly indulgent with on air talent that wouldn't make it if they had to go through a hiring process. I like Lex Fridman. I think he's an incredibly bright guy who understands that his expertise is narrow focused and is humble enough to come to subjects in which he is not an expert with a kid like fascination. My wife likes one with Jason Bateman and Will Arnett but I think its because she loves Jason Bateman. I flipped on one on my drive this weekend about sexuality with the episode title Happy Ending thinking it would get into something interesting...a terminal cancer patient with a double mastectomy who wants to tell everyone about the one time a massuse finished her off out of mercy. Fun! |

Stuff You Should Know has been the most consistent one in my rotation for probably a decade now on a weekly basis. Bald Move has a number of TV/Movie/Entertainment podcasts and does a great job covering that. I used to like Fresh Air but it can be unlistenable at times. But, it still has its moments with a good guest. Comedy Bang Bang can be exceptional if you know which improv people you like. I always listen to the Andy Daly or Paul F. Tompkins ones. Neil Campbell and Bobby Moynihan are very good. Also the Calvins Twins eps are always good with Taram Killam and Paul Brittain. But, even the clunkers usually have some hilarious moments. The other podcasts I listen to are too specific and nerdy to be relatable for others. |

never listened to a single podcast in my life. Don't even know where to find them. I'm good with Sirius/XM in the car. |

I'm good with Sirius/XM in the car. that's what i do. podcasts have become oversaturated and so many of them remind me of dennis & dee in "mac's big break". also, i couldn't disagree more about barstool. while i appreciate their antics in upsetting the sensitive "woke" out there...their content is full of inflated ego boosting douchebros who either brag about their gambling streaks or make inside jokes with each other. it's self-congratulating shit that reminds me of the worst of howard stern & don imus put together. |

Recipe Club Sporkful Milkstreet Noisy's occasionally Joe Rogan Smartless the one with Bateman is okay. I'd like to find a funny one but usually just end up putting on comedians on YouTube or looking for interviews of them |

There is very little where I listen to even half the episodes. I kind of pick and choose based on the topic. One I like is Side Hustle School, which is a daily podcast Less than 10 minutes on side gigs and one person entrepreneurs. I listen to that before I go to sleep a fair amount because it's usually a simple positive story. I also like No Stupid Questions (which I think I found on a 2020 thread here). I listen to John Kass' podcast if he has Charles Lipson on, and maybe once a month otherwise. Similarly there is a morning show out of London's LBC hosted by Nick Ferrari (who used to host Sky's The Pledge before it became a COVID casualty) which I listen to the first hour of about once a month to get a UK perspective on current issues. I like Jocko Podcast when I like the book or the guest. But that's a huge time commitment so I will save those for long drives or long flights, I have one I have downloaded for a long drive home tomorrow afternoon from DC. If Tony is there I will put on a couple of the PTI rebroadcast podcast in a row, more in football season. About once a month I'll find an ESPN Daily episode with an interesting topic although I liked Mina better than Pablo as a host. Erik Anders Lang used to have a golf themed podcast which was a perfect listen for a late evening Chicago-Raleigh flight. Sadly it appears to have ended this spring. The guy who hosted my favorite podcast retired, he was an ex NPR guy named Frank Stasho (sp?) who hosted a current affairs show on the local north Carolina public radio network but focused on the Triangle. A very good interviewer. |

the best listen is still old Stern shows on youtube. I can listen to them ripping on Jackie and Nancy every day and still laugh from the moment I hear the organ music |

I don't regularly listen to any, but I did check out a number of Johnny B podcasts while working from home during covid. Basically whenever a Cubs game interrupted a Score broadcast. The funny thing is I didn't really expect to enjoy it much since I rarely listened to him live since the 90's. I found it to be pretty enjoyable and much closer to his heyday in style (with some classic moments thrown into each episode). |

Opie and Anthony when they had comedians on were hilarious. Colin Quinn, Patrice O'Neal, Jim Norton, Rich Vos and others were hilarious on that show just busting balls for hours. Lot of YouTube clips available. If you hate fantasy football, Jim Florentine does a great riff on how much he hates fantasy football. https://youtu.be/9eoeqAD-Xyg |

I'm about 2/3 if the way through and it is excellent. |

The Bonfire Jim & Sam WTF The Yak Last one is sort of out there. I randomly tuned into a conversation between Lucille Ball and Mel Torme a few weeks ago on SiriusXM (temp. ch. 104). Apparently, she'd go around from studio to studio in the 50s and 60s with a tape recorder and talk to people. The conversations can get pretty deep and introspective, very different than a Johnny Carson clip on YouTube. And Dick Cavett wasn't until the 70s. It'll be released as a podcast after its short run on SiriusXM (thanks to her daughter unearthing the tapes). |
