It seems a few of you like to log on and call people names and complain about what others say. That's great, I've done it too, but it's not my life's calling. For the rest of you, how do you find happiness or fulfillment in life?

struggling w/ this right now. I was fine during last year's pandemic but not sure what but feeling lost everyday i wake up. I try to shake it off but it's lingering. I've read others have been going thru this too. I fired my therapist 3 mo ago as I felt she was not helping but rather milking me for money. Trying to go day by day. Its hard.

It isn't happiness you should seek. It's peace. The problem is we are all unique and we find peace in unique ways. There really is no handbook and it's arrogant to tell someone how to find peace.

5 Simples Rules:

1. Stay off social media (Facebook, Twitter, CFMB, etc.)
2. Spend time with your family
3. Do not watch cable news
4. Go outside
5. Stay off social media (Facebook, Twitter, CFMB, etc.)

#1 & #5 are the most important rules.

Being content with what you have and staying above the fray (i.e. avoiding social media).

It's not about being grateful. It's about being selfish. I don't mean being selfish in ways that hurts other people but do things for yourself. Maximize your vacation time and go places and experiences. If you can afford it, make a purchase that improves your life or your kids life. Stop caring about what others are doing outside of getting your own ideas on what to do. Does it really matter if someone on social media was able to pose for a photo looking like the perfect family in front of a tree with the leaves changing? Nope. Doesn't matter at all.

It's also quite a freeing feeling to go with the attitude that the country/future will be fine, and even if it isn't, there isn't anything you can do about it. An entire generation spent every day worried about nuclear war and it never came. Now, maybe the fears were warranted, but if it had happened they couldn't have done anything about it anyways. So even in the best case scenario, they worried for decades about something and still ended up dead. If that doesn't make you find happiness then I don't know what will.

In his own perverted way Brick is right. Content and peace are good words. Happiness derives from there I guess.

I think one needs to find one reason that one wakes up on any given day. They aren’t guaranteed so find a little time early to take in some wonderment of it. Look forward or reflect on what was. Look in the mirror. Don’t worry, be happy.

I'd say the opposite, that being less self interested is the key, so enjoy the conflicting advice

I will add one more....at some point you have to appreciate and value the fact that you're alive. Life is beautiful and sadly...too short.

Good modifications. After some thought, number priority for happiness is just to go outside.

Very little is as depressing as being inside watching cable news or scrolling social media. You can see negative effects of social media/cable news with many of the posters in the Politics and COVID sections. If these posters went outside they'd be much happier people.

^^^THIS. Especially #1. Not to mention the trials going on lately.

Starting about two months into Covid, I pretty much only read a synopsis of the New York Times emailed to me and maybe one tenth of tv news. It's the same five themes over and over ad nauseam.

About two months into lockdown I decided I wasn't going to talk about it anymore. Politics as well. At some point I realized that 95% of the time people were just talking at each other instead of with each and it just left me entirely too agitated. I don't like being agitated. It was the right move for me. I also flat out stopped following the news. Didn't mean I didn't keep up in some abstract way but I wasn't going to swim and wallow in it. Just not healthy for me.

I'm not an innately happy person. I over think, wonder what's next and worry. You gave to let yourself be happy. At least that's the advice I've been given. I'll let you know if it works but part of that is finding contentment with what you have/where you are at. I'm working on it.
