Ever drank on the job?

What were u drinking, and how buzzed did u get?

Have u been drinkin' on the job more since pandemic, i.e., drinkin' while "workin'" at home?

If at the physical office or work location, what did ur coworkers think of it? Or did u do it without anyone noticing?

How did u get away with it? If not, who busted you, and did u get fired for it on the spot?

Did it lead to a sexual encounter??

Looking back when I worked as a machinist , I can’t believe how often the company brought alcohol in for holiday parties, work milestones , etc. We would work until noon then basically drink as much as we wanted until you wanted to leave . They didn’t give two shits ( or even think about) possible liability if you racked someone up on the ride home after drinking company supplied booze. Dont think that flies in today’s corporate environment .

A good deterrent for this sort of thing would be capital punishment.

My late uncle who was one of the richest guys in the state of Louisiana got his start as a Jim Beam salesman. He became the number one liquor salesman in the entire South. I remember him telling a story about how the guys he worked with would make a big sale at 10:00 a.m. and then hit the bar for the rest of the day. Not him. He just kept going. And that was the simple secret to his success. My partner Joe and I are like the guys he worked with.

I worked overnight security at McCormick Place in my youth. The supervisors were appreciative to have someone who didn't show up to work drunk. You could smell the alcohol on people. Meanwhile, I'd be sitting there with my bag of pretzels listening to the odd overnight shows on the radio.

There are a lot of lawyers I know with booze in their desk drawer. Many who start happy hour early and have to be poured into cabs for the ride home on a regular basis. That's not my style. The worst I've ever done is have a few drinks at a St. Patrick's lunch and come back to the office but not really do work.

Yep, ask the KC Chiefs how that one works out

Way back in '03-'04 when I was assistant GM of the pizza place in the food court at River Oaks mall, we would regularly have beer on Friday/Saturday nights. We had Juan 1 and Juan 2 who kicked all sorts of ass in the kitchen. I'd run out about 8:00 and grab a 12 pack of Tecate, they would clean and prep everything, and I'd let them leave at 9 and punch them out at 9:30 after I was done counting the money and whatnot. One time one of the custodians came back there and saw us drinking. At first we thought he was gonna rat us out, but he wasn't mad at the act. He was mad he hadn't been invited.

Those were great times.

i worked a die casting place for many years that was owned by a Polish family...the Dad was the founder and basically spoke no English. He'd go on week long benders, he had a golf cart he'd drive around the plant, I'm shocked he never crashed it. But all the maintenance people were Polish and they were def hitting the bottle at work too. On top of that these people basically followed zero safety protocols, they'd be working on top of a die casting machine with the power still on, shit like that. Unbelievable.

Late 90s I worked midnights in a factory. The maintenance guys were always drinking something and if you needed something from them you better hope it was early in the night otherwise you were usually out of luck.

When I worked at Northwestern it was in one of the old houses on Sheridan where some of the smaller departments were located. The kitchen was fully stocked with Old Style by the placement director. Most of the time protocol was to wait until 5pm Monday through Thursday, but Friday afternoons most graduate students started whenever their last class ended, and staff would join them

In the 1990s, most executives at the company I was working at had a bottle of Scotch in their offices. Starting at 3pm on a Friday was customary. Then the company hired an inside lawyer and that came to a screeching halt.

I usually had a few minis of some kind of whiskey in my desk, but it was rare that I opened one during the week, like twice a year. Those were generally reserved for if I had to work on a Sunday.

As a young summer associate there were a number of older lawers who loved to start early ish. 1:00 deposition meant drinking by 330-4:00 in a bar just far enough from the office. And a few times there were occasions where they'd close shop early and spend thousands on an outing for maybe 15 of us.

Once almost led me to appreciate a secretary a little too much.

I always liked to drink, but kept it confined to after work. In 2010 I took a job in a 5 person sales office. These guys went out to lunch every day and drank—mostly just beer, but strong beer.

Didn’t work out so well for me. Left that job but continued the habit, entered rehab in 2014.

If you’re a heavy drinker, be very careful what lines you cross.

I have never drank while doing the physical part of the job. I may be dumb but I’m not stupid. I have had a cocktail while doing the paperwork part or while discussing plans with the people we farm with. I have had to round up a loose cow after having a drink so that is probably closest to drinking while working. Its a pretty rare occasion thst the phone rings for that. I’d have to be 100% sober or have some interesting drinking habits to avoid that.

This is why i dont. But for the guys who do physical labor, it seems to help a lot. That said, nothing beats a sober man on a mission. Only problem is the motivation comes from the alcohol. It wasnt like this in illinois. Its a wisconsin thing

One time I filled up an empty can of soda about a 1/2 full of Southern Comfort and drank it at lunch my senior year of high school. Didn't get caught for it as I had gym the next class but that was kind of ballsy and stupid on my part. I worked at a warehouse picking parts and a couple of times I bought a 40oz on my lunch break hanging out with my co-workers at a park near the facility. I definitely drank when I was a cook at a bar in college. Was the best job ever. Prepping food, cooking food, bullshitting with the bartenders, watching sports on TV and getting paid for it. I never had to wait in a line to get into a bar my two years on that campus as all the other bars took care of their own. I could never get away with it in the corporate world and they don't serve stuff like that at any events we have. Times have changed and the company wouldn't want to be libel for something like that. I used to be a good soldier and do whatever work wanted me to but after almost 18 years I have come to realize that if I got run over by a bus today they would have someone in my chair within a week or two.
