We had some fraud recently. We caught it, won’t be out any money, but this wasn’t a dark web identity thrift type thing - I’m pretty sure I know who did it.

My question - how do I pursue this? Anybody have any experience in going after these types of things?

you can report it to the police and let them handle it if you want.

Do you want the perp to face charges (so to speak)?

Yeah. He’d have stolen like $2k from me had I not caught it so fuck him. (Assuming I’m right about the perp).

Trying to prove it first. Probably not my job but such is life when you’re working from home. I guess my main questions are:

- do vendors have an obligation to verify identity for a credit card
- what info do vendors have to share with me, given the charges were on my card
- once I prove I’m right…so what? What’s the point?

report it to the police and see if they get it. If you got it they probably will.

What the guy’s on the board usually do is provide an electronic clean transfer. Then a firearm that is clean in a bowling alley locker. Get a private message with instructions to PM then wait. After that you will feel satisfaction but overwhelmingly guilt. Be prepared.

is it one of those things where because of the pandemic they ask you to give your cc # and code to order/pickup something? I hate that.

If anyone is worried about Credit Card fraud, I will help you at no charge.
Send me the credit card number, expiration date and 3 digit security code (don't forget the Amex code is 4 digits) in a private message and I'll initiate a lock down protocol that will ensure nobody but you can use it.

By oddly specific, can we assume this wasn’t the result of some restaurant transaction?

Since Antioch isn't spilling his story I've got one. When I had my speaker company I had a guy make a large purchase over the phone with credit cards. I think it was for around $10,000.00. I suspected it was a scam because he split the payments up and there were different names, but I ran the cards and the charges went through. I purposely waited a few days and when I didn't hear anything, I delivered the merchandise. About two weeks later I get a call from the credit card processor telling me the charges were fraudulent. Well, I wasn't gonna take the hit for ten grand. I went to my bank right away and closed the account because I knew they were going to charge me back. The credit card company called me and told me I was responsible. I told them to fuck off and call the police. It's not my problem.

I got into a big argument with the guy. I asked him why they charged me an extra point and a half for transactions where the card wasn't present. He said because there was more risk. I then asked how that could be the case since he was trying to charge me back and make me suffer the risk. He didn't have a good answer. Fuck him and his usurious company.

luckily, it was with a credit card. a debit card case would see you swim 2 oceans and climb 3 mountains to get your cash back.

banks will write off the credit card loss. debit card fraud? it's the bank giving you their money. good luck with that.

for that reason, we never, ever, use our debit cards for purchases. the penalties range for amount of 'goods and services'. a newer problem with this is that illegals are using your info for tax refunds/eligibility for govt. programs. when it works, they disappear for a year or so after cashing a few checks and then return to the good ole' usa for another scam. when it doesn't work, they leave and come back with a new name. this is one issue that makes my blood boil. biden isn't helping matters. more illegals means more identity theft.

you say $2k? tell the person this:

Quote:
$2,000 to $10,000 it a Class 2 Felony. A Class 2 felony is punishable by between 3 to 7 years in prison and probation is possible

I worked for chase for about 6 months in the CC dept. worst job ever.I left it to go collect garbage.

They will not tell you anything esp if they did not catch it. Depending on the agent ,you might get a few tidbits. Best bet is get the police involved as it is the only way you will be able to 100% protect yourself. If they have a CC number they might have even more on you. You need to put a lock on your credit with all three companies like right now.

Well, they were gonna try and charge me back and snatch the money from my account. The credit card guy was threatening me as if I were part of it.

To be fair, as I said, I had my suspicions and I ran the cards anyway. I'm not a thief, but I'm not an angel either. I wanted to make that sale. I just think the risk should be on their side and their own policy- charging a premium for cards taken over the phone- would suggest they accept that it is.

I actually called the FBI and explained the situation. I said I could tell them the address where the stuff was delivered. The FBI guy said, "Yeah, it's really not enough money for us to get involved."

We had our card denied due to suspicion of fraud while in Florida last week & it was actually a legit purchase (an on-line carry-out food order). What seemed odd to me was we had used the same card all week with no issue. I'm not sure what would have made this transaction different than any other we'd done to that point. Fortunately they sent a text asking if it was legit - thus we were able confirm and immediately use it to complete the purchase.

Online purchases get flagged a lot more than in person purchases because it's so much easier to do it.

I've had that shit happen in person. It's fucking embarrassing to have your card declined. I mean come on, you're gonna flag a $60 lunch bill just because it's not a place I regularly go.

We have been targets of credit card fraud a few times. In every instance the credit card company removed the charges.

When my dad died I found some bogus charges on his credit card. It took three or four letters but I got them removed too.

I could care less about identifying the perpetrators or prosecuting. Getting the charges removed is good enough for me.
