A Monday holiday in January seems like a waste (at least in the northern half of the country). I’ll probably just clean the house Monday, or work despite the holiday.

I think I could win the Presidency on the following platform:

Move MLK Day to the Monday after the Super Bowl. Everyone wants that day off. The Super Bowl could be used as a platform to honor MLK, including an annual halftime tribute. It would always land during February—Black History Month.

Anyone on board with this?

Just be happy we have a MLK day. But still not many companies recognize it for an off day. Only the Federal/State gov's.

If MLK holiday was created in today's political world, what would have happened was they'd cancel President's Day Holiday in FEB and replace it as MLK Day Holiday. Because you know, the Presidents were all racists.

Fine with me if it means eliminating country music during the halftime show.

Why not make President's Day a holiday again? Have that be after the Super Bowl. An extra day off during the winter would be nice.

Because Jefferson owned slaves or something. Can’t be celebrating that .

It is holiday for school and federal employees…just not for most of the rest of us. I don’t recall it ever being a work day off.

It depended on the place. Not sure why it's not more generally accepted as a day off. I just think the day after the Super Bowl should be a holiday. And MLK day is around his birthday, so it doesn't make sense to celebrate it in February.

Didn’t they take a Super Bowl away from AZ for not having the holiday?

When would you buy mattresses if it wasn’t for Presidents’ Day?

So Jefferson was heavily impacted by shock therapy also? Just Asking A Question

Super Bowl will be the Sunday before President's day in a couple of years when they go to an 18 game schedule.

Has there been any?

I'm actually looking forward to this year's show. It's gonna be awesome. Mary J. Blige can open with "Real Love," then Dre and Eminem with "Forgot About Dre," Dre and Snoop with "The Next Episode," and finally Kendrick Lamar with his big hit "Pitchfork Gives My Albums 9.2s."

There’s been a few but yeah, they’ve mostly been assigned National Anthem duties.

I think it's safe to say, with the dinosaur rock era well in the rear-view by now, that the halftime shows will be hip-hop/R&B TFN. Maybe Chris Martin will make a cameo alongside Travis Scott for some reason.

I’d be fine with JLo/Shakira until they age out.

Then get the next JLo/Shakira.

The worse was changing the MNF Theme to that goofy looking dude Hank williams jr ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL . That was just terrible for everyone in the country except maybe country music fans.

That's nice of Mary to cover the Doobie Brothers.

Fortunately I let a call from a dickhead from the company (in North Carolina) I work with go to voice mail. Maybe I'll call these assholes on Independence Day for the same lack of respect.

Back in the day when I was working I use to always give my employee's MLK day off. I use to get shit from it from upper management and often my job was threatened but I didnt give a shit.

It's sad in today's corporate world that MLK day is still not a paid day off. And we're talking about mega billion corporations.

The Simpsons had one of the the best takes, if not the best take, on this. Well....it was about statues, but still.
