Have a guy at work that I only know by his nickname, can never remember his actual name, it's made worse by the fact that the all the other people at work only call him by his nickname as well, whenever I use his actual name nobody knows who I am talking about.

i never understood why most companies dont keep a current picture directory of all employees. i mean, youre supposed to by many standards. its incredibly helpful for new hires to assimilate quicker.

We have a Jim who is okay being called Jimbo, and I do. However, Eric is not so good being Tuna, so I try to use Eric.

We had another shift with a field supervisor named Eric, who refused to let a new guy, also named Eric, be called Eric. He just started calling him Dave. Looking back, I think part of it is older Eric is rather hard of hearing, and was able to hear his own name, but not discern if two people were possible. Even though old Eric has moved on, many still cal the newer guy Dave, but I try hard to use Eric.

One of the supervisors on my shift took to referring to a new guy as "Bukkake", somehow this was better than using his last name, Dubuque. It has stuck with more than a few people, I am quite uncomfortable with this, especially in mixed company, and despite the other, non-porn meaning. We all know what he means. Both guys are Army vets, so maybe this is more accepted in their circles. I feel for the new guy, with a simple, three-letter first name, and a bright future here.

People should wear name tags. Everyone would be a lot friendlier. :eye:

In my late 20's I was invited to a guy's wedding who I only knew his nickname and his last name.

JORR, what are the odds that I can attend a day of the races with you and interact with some of these individuals?

I did until social media. I can't think of anyone, who doesn't post here, whose government name I don't know.

I had a work friend that was just an absolute Master at assigning nicknames to people we saw at work on a daily basis that we didn't know.

My favorite was "Shops With Her Daughter".
Women in her late 40's / early 50's....definitely attractive for her age bracket, but clearly dressed like she was trying to impress the wrong demograpic.

Many staff members will turn their ID badges backward because they have had problems with creepy or mentally ill patients from stalking them on social media, have had several younger RN's and CNA's that find messages from dudes on FB asking them out after they take care of them, many of the providers that round and treat patients on the unit do the same thing, so I constantly have to stop new people and ask them who they are and who's patients are they seeing.

The government name of the guy I'm talking about is so different from his nickname that it makes it difficult to track him down.

Greasy Tony.

Anyone who regularly attended harness racing in Chicago knows who Greasy Tony is. He would stand underneath a TV with this arms folded across his chest and the program in his right hand. As the horses entered the stretch he would unfold his arms and smack the program so loud it would sound like a cannon and then quickly fold his arms back across his chest. He might perform this operation two or three times during a stretch drive depending on how competitive the horse he wagered on was.

Everybody here. Even guys and gals I've met and have told me their names with the few exceptions of some on Twitter that use their real names.

I have a friend from grammar school nicknamed Duque. I ran into him studying at Northwestern's library years later. While I immediately recognized him, I caught myself before I blurted out his nickname. He found my reticence hilarious.

I don't know why but periodically today I've been thinking about a guy with the nickname "Jean Jacket Joe" and laughing to myself.

If you met me while I was 22 or under there is a nickname that followed me to first college but pretty much died out in Montana. I think one person I met out there calls me it. When people call me buy it because they hear family or old friends reference it it just doesn’t work. It’s a forced familiarity that is fake. Kind of like when sales men try to shorten my name. No. Don’t do that.

I called two guys growing up intentionally by the wrong name. No real reason but it seemed funny at the time and lasted for years.

Now it’s borderline uncomfortable to say their actual names so I just avoid talking to them.

 I'm pretty sure the guy's real name is Bobby. My late friend Jimmy MacKenzie gave him his nickname. Jimmy MacKenzie's own nickname was "Jimmy Mack."

The one time I met up with bored people (at Arlington) it seemed they all knew each other yet as I recall they mostly called each other by their screen names. Which to me was at the same time both funny and a little creepy.

i pretty much know you as JORR so i reckon that's gotta count as one of the racetrack nicknames on some level. or do they have a different nickname for you?

When Tommy was walking around the Bureau county fairgrounds asking people if they’d seen the inebriated rodent he was mistaken for a carnie and inducted into their secret society even though many were worried he was carrying around a picked pocket gopher.

I just remembered one of the all time great racetrack nicknames- Philly the Lice. It always kind of bothered me because "lice" is plural. I figure he should have been Philly the Louse. But I wasn't the one who named him.

Probably more creepy for you than some others.
