We have lived in this house for almost 20 years. For the first 18 years we had no issues with toilet seats. Both bathrooms had the seat that was there when we bought the house. 2 years ago in the span of about a month both seats finally broke. Since that time we have replaced each seat 4 times in each bathroom. Now in the last day they have both broke again. We have gotten different types and brands. WTF is going on with stuff. Nothing lasts any more. I know, I know...I am going to make a great old man yelling at the clouds. |

I've had to replace ours every year the past few years. It's irritating. |

I do agree 20 years ago everything was made shit and these days it's just better to make it yourself even if it doesn't look as nice |

We remodeled in 2001-2002, and I had not replaced a seat, either. Wife hit the store closing sale at our local True Value and bought a new one for her bath. She says the paint was worn off the original. Now, I hear her new one has "soft close", like many cabinets newer than ours. F'n toilet seat will lead me to replace our cabinets and drawers, now. |

I have never had this happen in my old house or current house. Old house had shitters that were 20 years old and the new one has new Kohler fixtures that are goind on 4,5 and 6 years now. Someone in the house needs some fiber because the only way you should break a seat is by rocking side to side to work out a rock. |

How does one break a toilet seat? I have replaced one or two that became tired and old-looking but we have never broken any. I concur with the Kohler suggestion. |

Something else they don't make like they used to: Headlamp bulbs for cars. 2013 Highlander; the original bulbs lasted about 150,000 miles. Next 50,000 miles (about 3 years) I have had to replace each one at least twice. Amazon, Autozone, repair shop, doesn't matter. |

Back when I was one of the few gentiles in the scrap business, I had an associate by the name of Shelly Richmond. Shelly purchased a trailer load of toilet seats at a very low price and he already had them sold for a 100%+ profit before he took possession. That's how we savvy scrap guys like to do it. When the shipment arrived, Shelly's education on toilet seats began. Apparently, there are two standard sizes of toilet seat- one is for the toilets in a typical home and the other, slightly smaller seat is for trailers. Well, unbeknownst to Shelly, he had purchased the trailer version. Now his buyer wasn't going to take the shipment and Shelly was sitting on a trailer load of toilet seats he could not move. What to do? Old Shelly put on his thinking cap and came up with a lightning bolt. He would package them up as gag gift picture frames. He ended up making about a 2000% profit and ended up on the cover of the Wall Street Journal complete with a stipple drawing. Mr. Richmond indeed. |

I've hesitated for years to bring this up but the reason I moved out of Chicago was due to a business venture that involved the toilet and plumbing industries. Powerful lobby nobody knows about. I'll probably get made fun so I'll keep quiet. But looking back we were probably 30 years too early. |

"I'M WORKING DOWN HERE!" http://www.gaggifts.com/Talking-Toilet.html No, it wasn't that. It was a biological change to help people go to the bathroom in an efficient way. Especially in developing 3rd world countries where there are no toilets. We tested it on rats and it worked. But getting it to humans AND the biggest hurdle, getting the plumbing and toilet lobby to agree with it was where it failed. We got fucked over by politicians and then blackballed in the city. I really don't want to get into the details but maybe it's therapeutic for me if you want to know. The waterless toilets failed because water cuts down the stink |

I've bought a few toilets just to have a more modern look. I've never replaced a toilet seat in my 16 years of homeownership. It's probably just Missouri manufacturing. A cracked seat may be a feature of a Missouri toilet. |

What we did is when you had to go to the bathroom, #2, instead of sitting there and having all the waste come out of your body, we created a biological solution where all your poo-poo waste, would be encapsulated into a thin membrane container. So when you go to the bathroom, you would basically poop out an 'egg' with all your waste in it. quick and easy. and it worked on mice. this is bringing back very stressful time in my life...give me a second to gather my thoughts before I continue.... |

You could probably sell this 'membrane in the rectum' idea to the Mexican Cartels. |

Observer wrote: ok had to take some deep breaths and walk around.... 2/3- So yes, the waste was in like an egg like membrane container out of the body. Think about when you break off the shell of an egg and you have that sticky membrane, it was more like that. For a human, the size of the membrane container was to be the size of a grapefruit. So this would come out of your body, one time bowel movement, quick and easy. Saves time and in third world countries, where infections happen when people poop in the woods or maybe they're in a jungle and can get bit by a snake, it would be very safe and efficient. need some time again to stress relief....hold on.. Are you Bill Gates? |

3/3 ok....so we had this great business idea, worked w/ University of Chicago biologists ,....the whole shebang. We had funding but since this involved the FDA and other gov agencies, we were told to work w/ a local politician to get it across the board. Not going to mention who. We were told to work w/ this politician we had to pretty much bribe our way in. So we had one of our sales guy stuff some $$$ in a gift basket as we were told that was the way to do it. hold on... |
