Gun to your head. Do you think you could vault a creek bed given 6 hours notice? The creek is eight feet across. |

Why would the notice matter? Is the idea that you’d spend that 6hrs training? |

You have six hours to post proof I rolled my ankle last night so can’t train. I’ll post proof 6hrs after my ankle is healed. |

Do you have to land in your feet? Is it a success if your feet or shins get a little wet but most of your body makes it over? |

Both sides of creek are same height. So you’re not just doing a controlled fall over a creek. Going to need some kind of athleticism. |

I have it figured out. I straddle the creek with the pole and shimmy across. |

In grade school, we didn't have a pole vault track/pit but we went to a meet that had one. So, on the bus on the way to the meet, our coach asked if anyone wanted to do it so we would have someone in the event. So, I said I would. They gave any kids there that hadn't done it before about a 3 minute instruction on what to do and then turned some 13-year-olds loose on an incredibly dangerous event. I think on my third attempt it was that I finally got airborne and then I was at the apex and I could have just easily fallen backward on the track as gone forward. I kind of fell to the side but still hit the mat. It was all about kid safety back then. |

In high school there was nothing more irritating than going to the city track championships and eternally coming in second to Lane Tech because they had three kids in every field event like the pole vault. They could win city with that and a few forth place finishes in track events. But I don't think they ever scored a single point downstate. |

When I was in great shape in high school running on the track team none of the poles were rated for my weight. 30 years later I'm sure I'd snap them like toothpick. |

Actually the irritation ended a couple weeks later when we battled for state and were having a good time and they weren't really there. My sons and I were laughing about the second place plaques on display at our old high school years later. |

He has been having training sessions this summer for middle schoolers to try to get some more kids in the event when they are in high school. I watched a little of it and it is crazy. |

Pole vault scares the hell out of me. So many factors that can lead to severe injury, not to mention getting over the damn bar. |

The sticking point of the pole. How to prepare that just to practice going over the creek. He can't go into that half baked or you'll crack a bone before you even have a shot at Spiral Crik. |
