Just saw a guy on the news talking about Lightfoot state -

"It's the old adage. It's not about how much work you do. It's about how much work your boss sees you trying to do."

Is that an old adage I'm not aware of? Because, as a boss of sorts, it's absolutely about how much work you do. This is not a defense of Lightfoot. I don't even know what he was talking about but that can't be an old adage.

Never heard of that one.

Well, you're speaking from the perspective of boss. I see what this adage is talking about all the time. Guys making it appear they're productive when they're really dead weight. Gullible bosses can't see through the act.

I think it was a shot at TLR and Leury Garcia.

Assigned tasked is estimated to take 10 hours, employee finishes it in one. Employee given more work at same pay. What even is goldbricking?

This is exactly how I was going to reply to Dr. Ken's Adage.
I also manage people. I've also spent years watching others try and give the impression they're working harder and longer than anyone else. MANY times it's a joke.

So in response to Aguie's adage, I'll say "Work smarter, not harder".

It's a learned skill. You just don't fall out of bed being efficient.

Well, I agree with that.

The original one seems to be saying the opposite. It's more important that it looks like you are working rather than actually working.

Add "in bed" to the end of adages like you can fortunes in a fortune cookie and they still work, usually.

Never confuse activity with accomplishment....in bed
Work smarter, not harder...in bed
It's not about how much work you do. It's about how much work your boss sees you trying to do....in bed.

It depends on how many employees you are in charge of but unless you only have a couple of employees you are monitoring you probably only know one or two things an employee is doing in the span of a given week.

There are things I've done that have taken an hour or two that got the higher ups more excited than things that took three months of work.

I still see the title and think Old Bastages and find it fitting that Ken and Reader are posting in the thread.

It does say the opposite. But you know what they say: Opposites attract.
