It's too bad they can't figure out a way to get her out but she also needs to point the thumb at herself. If I was travelling to Russia I would be damn sure I was toeing the line. I don't care if she had a doctor's note or whatever else they have said. You ain't in the good ole USA. I don't see her lasting long in a penal colony doing hard labor unfortunately. |

1. You should never travel to a foreign country without first knowing the laws and customs of those countries. 2. Never blindly think that American hegemony Trumps all in these situations either. The U.S. isn't going to start WW3 just to get anyone out of a Russian hellhole prison. Nor should they. As they like to say from the "land" I'm from, she's just going to have to "sit down" on this one. |

I'm still not understanding the "wrongfully detained" claim by the White House. No one has disputed the fact she was found with illegal drugs. Someone here in a previous thread made the point that we have convicted and jailed Russians on DUI charges that probably seem ludicrous to people from that country, where a BAC of 0.08 is present just waking up. |

They have had news stories here about people from PA also being over there in similar circumstances. Even having the media and politicians pay any attention has already gotten her special treatment. If Russia says no to make a point or not what the hell can you do? It is the height of arrogance failing clear torture to demand special justice in a foreign country. Way back when did we stop our people getting caned in Singapore or wherever? PS if it was my kid/relative I would be absolutely screaming the loudest.

Everything I’ve read said her best chance of getting out of it quickly was to admit it and get sentenced as soon as possible because the precedent is that they won’t do a deal for you until you’re actually found guilty. |

Yeah, to clarify, I in no way agree with a nine-year sentence for cannabis oil, and I am assuming she was guilty of the charges (per Russian law). Also, there are other Americans in Russia (such as white male Marc Fogel) serving time for similar offenses, so it's not like Griner is unique in that regard. I haven't heard the White House complain that Fogel has been wrongfully detained or even attempt to negotiate a release/swap on his behalf. I wish Griner the best (especially now if she's going to a labor camp) but don't like the favoritism. |

Then you're not paying attention, friend. State already asked for his release. I think you mean publicity rather than favoritism. Griner is a quasi celebrity which explains the publicity. But the USG is trying to get both back. |
