How likely is it that I'll have to get dragged downtown for a day? Would you want me on your jury anyway?

I wouldn't put you on my jury. You don't fit the profile of someone that would vote not guilty for me. I would take Nardi.

Not guilty by reason of insanity?

My mom has been on stand by like 5 times over the last several years. Never had to go. I was once about ten years ago. No go.

You've come a long way from when you were on the list of people not welcome at the Peeps/OKC/KS message board.

Got stuck on a med mal jury about ten years ago, biggest mistake the insurance lawer made that autumn. Both he and his client were unlikable and loose with their words. I pointed this out in the jury room, talked about how they didn’t respect our time and made sure the plaintiff got top dollar.

But at least the food stands in Daley Plaza were top notch.

Haven't heard of standby jury duty.

I was called for Harris County jury duty a few months ago. They probably had 800 people or so divided into 4 rooms. They have a monitor in each room then they'd show a range of numbers and if your number was in that range, you'd go out in the hall. From there, they whittle that number down to a smaller number and if you make that, you're going into the court room for jury selection. If your number isn't called or you're not called to the smaller group, you are dismissed with full credit.

I was in the smaller group waiting to get into a court room. After waiting about 45 minutes, we were sent to an unoccupied court room to wait. After about 20 more minutes, a judge comes in (all rise) and dismisses us with full credit. As she put it, "Sometimes, these things happen with family members." I'm guessing that one family member didn't want to testify against another. Wasn't sure if it was a criminal or civil case.

Hope you don't get picked to attend.

On standby you used to have to call the night before and see if your number was up, otherwise nada.

That's every jury duty out here. Haven't been hit with the grand jury situation yet but the other one is every other year or so.

I haven't been recalled since we moved back into Cook County.

My federal call last year was cancelled the day before when I called to confirm.

I don't know any other friend called for federal jury duty. Odd...no.

I was a juror on a murder trial once. Maybe 12 years ago. Young black kid, maybe 25 or so. It was clear he did it based on the evidence and witnesses.

Shot another kid across the alley in broad daylight. Dozens of people around that saw it.

It was a gang thing. So it was unanimous. Guilty. I felt bad, though. Sending a kid away for life. Then the judge came back to us in the jury room after the trial and said he had a prior that we never learned about. Another murder. Weeks before the one we were judging. Guilty on that one too. So he was all ready in jail for life before our trial.

My wife throws them out. Her reasoning is if you don't call in they can't prove you ever received the notice. I on the other hand do not recall ever receiving a stand-by notice.

My BIL is a cop and recommended the same strategy. Only reason to serve on a jury is if you want to serve on a jury.
