He tweets like every second and each one is crazier than the last one.

Play golf. Or tennis. Or pickleball. Or fish. Hunt. Snowmobile. Somethin'..

Indiana beating the Illini last night really took it out of him. Gotta give him some grace.

He's kind of like Henry Hill in witness protection now. He retired far away from the old gang at Tony's Deli, where he liked to sit and bullshit each day.

as an aside, I met the son of his old Basta Pasta pal. The kid is in the restaurant business as well with some places in Park Ridge. Nice guy.

even further aside, I was driving down Belmont last night for a thing and I saw the old bunker studios for SCR and XRT. The building still has the station names on the front.

The daily show at the lunchtable at Shady Acres is still more entertaining and entergetic than the...I guess they are still calling it sports talk radio going on at WSCR each day.

Find the gambling and fantasy football talk on the radio at best tedious, but nothing makes me PTFB faster than Parkins droning on and on about gambling, at least North wraps it in a goofy presentation, if he were a younger dude he would be on one of the dozens of sports gambling shows you see on the regional sports networks.

Good point about retirees that do not have hobbies, they don't tend to live very long because they end up handing at the end of the bar at a local watering whole or club each day.

Idk, I had North in this morning for a 3 minute drive to get donuts and had to PTFB.

He was doing an old man rambling bit about his Eagles handicapping knowledge. It mostly consisted of listing a bunch of players from 50 years ago, all of whom are probably dead. It was like listening to Grobstein give gambling advice.

I think Mike has gone at life pretty damn hard. Why is he wearing a stocking hat inside his home?

What's interesting is many in sports journalism/ sport talk look like they haven't been to a gym in 20 years but are somehow experts on all sports.. North included. Reminds me of the reporter on the UFC fights (John Morgan) that always asks the first question has a double/triple chin with huge belly.

Besides B&B, my fondest memories of Chicago Sports Radio was the North and Buffone show.

That duo worked great together. In the mid 2000s, I had to drive home from UIC downtown every day all the way to Wheaton, and that show kept me entertained and sane in spite of all of the traffic on Roosevelt Rd. and the Eisenhower.

For Chicago sports fans the only person more likable than North on the Score or ESPN is Boers.

He used to seem like a nice guy. Then he started believing the hype about himself and got insulated by his money. It wouldn’t occur to me to turn one of his shows on now. Even as he slipped out of relevance everything he did was predictable and dull.

Not to mention grotesquely unlikeable.

And he was hated by his peers for not going to 4 semesters of "broadcasting" school even though that false premise is proof all of their careers are bullshit

I'm here because of Wise Guys. I can't figure out if that's a good thing. I imagine I could have found better ways to waste years of my life.

North is still entertaining. I would listen if he had a regular show.

same boat with some of RR opinion mixed in as well

His move from Roger's Park to Park Ridge was both physical and a state of mind.

I loved his work but he was also the guy who killed the golden age of the station. His arrogance was his downfall. Imagine turning down an 800K contract. The great Bee Bee negotiated him right out of the industry. Then they took down half of the veteran broadcasters with them with Webio.

I enjoy that Oddscouples show when I get a chance to listen.

I might have stolen this from someone else on the board but essentially when Mike North stopped being Mike North and started playing the role of Mike North, his entertainment value dropped precipitously.

I will say this, I'm not sure what type of home Mike North has, but I have a house that was constructed during FDR's first term as president and I'll say this for architects/builders back then they had the amazing ability to design and construct a home that is freezing fucking cold in the winter, and hot as balls in the summer.

I'm constantly wearing a stocking hat inside. (Tip of the cap for "stocking hat" use. I think most people now use beanie, snow cap, ski cap, etc.)
