the impact fees would have been present in the price of the homes if they were charged at the time of development, so these cheap old people were able to buy a less expensive house and are now complaining when it becomes appropriately valued

dolphin, these people work and wait their whole lives to move down there, sit in the heat, pretend it's not hot, and enforce these rules!

They don't seem to understand that THEY are the impact

I fully understand and agree with impact fees for development. But they avoided the impact fee, not the developer. Sure, you can sell more homes for less money, but with 130K sales over the years, the market for the product was robust. It's not like the developer was going to just eat the cost of the fee.

I don't think that's the issue people may have with this story.

This is a huge scandal! They need damage control!

What if they bought everybody on the board one of those Wizard tip calculators?

Sharing a jail cell with a murderer because your wife's championing of a no-kill animal shelter led to a violation of Florida's open meetings laws.

Yep! Because someone with a ton of money used their political connections to pay you back for a humiliating but temporary defeat.

I guess you're being snarky, but if you poll every American overwhelming numbers of them will bemoan career politicians. Here you had three non-career politicians elected to office to fight for certain rights that, rightly or wrongly, were perceived to be overburdening by the electorate.

Once in office those three individuals had the highest levels of Florida State Government using any and all means necessary to thwart their efforts from both a governance perspective, and from the perspective of putting their liberty and property at risk.

It's pretty disgusting really, and just reinforces the idea, and rightfully so, that government is there to serve the interests of a select few, usually, wealthy individuals and anyone who impedes this will be subject to any number of trials and tribulations.

If the question is why aren't there citizen legislators, this is the reason why. Shit like this just serves to (a) consolidate power with those who already have it or exercise it and (b) dissuade anyone who isn't willing to become an apparatus of the power structure from running for office.

Two hundred hours in a landfill isn't that bad. From the top down, the entire state sent a message to anyone who is thinking about interfering with the way business is done in Florida.

One day we’ll be the wealthy people with power. Then everyone is going to pay. Big time!

I know a guy who lives there. He says if you are into women in their 60's and have some money the pussy is up for grabs. He's in his 60's so he loves it. Something to look forward to.

If I'm single in my 60's, I'm going to want women in their 30's or 40's if I have fuck you money.

For the life of me, cases like this are exactly why I wouldn’t care for condo living unless you have massive f u money. It’s always going to come down to juvenile personality disorders or big money telling everyone else fu pay the bill. Funny how the usual people decrying Democratic policies and seemingly deaf and mute when the nut cutting comes in a crap republican state like Florida. I can’t wait to watch that welfare state and its residents choke on the public services billions come due. It’s time to relocate almost all of the military bases the hell out of corrupt welfare states like that, Texas, Georgia and Mississippi.
