Reading the give and take on various social media spots about the Bud Light trans "marketing" campaign leads me to believe that a few new marketing terms/concepts are needed to describe this modern type of "marketing" campaign.

A term like virtue marketing or SJM (social justice marketing) seems necessary to fully explain when a company apparently it's core audience so much that they undertake a marketing campaign that will offend them and likely lose market share.

Then it also dawned upon me that the short lived Goff and Bernstein show pioneered this concept as a type of virtue media where they would tell the core sports talk radio audience to stop listening because they were trying to....not sure exactly what the mission statement of that show was, but it ending in spectacular failure.

However, as has been discussed elsewhere the budweiser product is undrinkable, so maybe the marketing campaign is all about getting trans people and their supporters to drink bad beer? Maybe the new campaign should be, "Our beer sucks, but we care about your issues", an effort to make bud light the beer of choice for the offended, could even set up free beer stands at the next protest?

The goal must be to get the white protesty types to pick up a sixer of bud light instead of a triple salchow latte at Starbucks?

Has the commercial actually aired anywhere other than gay targeted shows yet?

I'm really curious to see what happens on the days of pride parades around the country in June. Or is an A-B sharp drop in market cap enough?

My sons both find the outrage hilarious like I do. That too shall pass imho.

I think all these big companies will do pride month promotions and rainbow-fy their logos online. To me those are distinct from the tranny fetish.

Difference in this case seems to be the full conflation of the gay rights movement with gender dysphoria. You’ll carve off a lot of the LG support from the alphabet mafia that way.

By that logic the revenue loss for the initial outrage is acceptable because the group you have offended is either not viewed as a long-term target market, or you feel that the loss will be offset by the larger new market you have now accessed by proving you are a virtuous company.

Always struck by how insulated it appears many of the posters here are, but that makes sense if you have only lived in one area your entire life, or only interact with people of middle to upper class economic status, or if you work in a profession with limited contact with the general population.

Have the fortune or likely what would be viewed as the misfortune by many who post here to know many people that drink massive amounts of beer and can almost guarantee you that they will walk away from the bud product line entirely. It would take hundreds of wokesters sipping a bud light or two a year to make up for the cases and cases of the product each one of the lower class drunks, that like it or not were the primary consumers of bud light.

My logic focuses on the stupidity and wildly overblown outrage over this non issue. I'm reminded of everytime there have been protests over the alleged immorality of current music. The artists enjoy a big boost of interest and sales thanks to the counterproductive protests. Always have, always will.

I can't imagine being outraged by a joke like this strange Dylan person much less the inane commercial for watery rice beer.

Listening to a Brit talking about trans not really being a thing there because of their health system. He thinks here it's a problem because there's profit to be made mutilating genitals and mammary glands.

A rather stereotypical response, but have come to expect that from many of the poster here who cling to outdated and silly supposed political party planks and platforms.

This is all about the intentional or unintentional misreading of a target market.

Not surprised you do not get it, why would you know the 2 Wheel Inn set and why would you the people there would terrify you,but do find the lack of perspective and understanding of the mindsets of people living in socioeconomic circumstances entertaining.

Understand we are not dealing with MENSA members here, but you can always count on certain posters to retreat to safe idiological silos, can almost write the posts for them.

 Your arrogance and sophomoric stance is amusing, almost as weak as your nonsensical posts in this thread. Or the idea of being perpetually aggrieved over a really silly issue. It's funny that as much as you accuse myself and others of ideological rigidity, you seem just short of being in lockstep with every right wing apologist and booster here. Strike that, as laughably arrogant as you are, fully in lockstep.

Target market? If Bud Light drinkers are so put off by this stupidity, maybe switch to Coors Light. Oh wait, that brand seems to be LBGTQ+ friendly as well. In any event, no one except guys like you will care about this in a month. Or after big sales on Bud Light. I guess people like you can't win for losing. Maybe stick to trying to compose actually coherent posts for a change while making really clueless assumptions like the close minded guy you are.

BTW, Zippy is one of the sharpest posters on here, and I may be mistaken but isn’t RR a U of Chicago grad? You do not have to agree with them, but insulting their obvious intelligence seems misplaced to me.

Safe ideological silos? Have you ever read any of your (non-football) posts? Most include whines about somebody or something offending you.

This is an important thing to dedicate brain power to.

RR pretty much owned this thread but I have something to add eventhough I have no idea what a safe ideological silo is but I never went to college.

It seems the main issue with these ppl on the right is the marketing of trans to children. Well what children are buying Bud Light? I'm really confused on this one.

Both sides get outraged about everything but the right acts like they're above it all when they're getting outraged about shit beer.

As RR said, this will pass and no one will care very soon. It's all so silly.

More about a completely new concept in marketing in which you ignore your target audience in an effort to seem more sensitive to perceived cultural norms, r hating your core customers and wanted to chase them away no matter how much money you lose.

Not surprising the esteemed self-appointed board geniuses missed it, but they are all waiting around for an original thought to respond to, so not surprising at all and if nothing else it entertains the Claw on his day off which is the only reason to be here anyway.

A total misread of the culture anyway, the young people have miniscule attention spans and do not care about beer whereas the older poor white peeps that make up the undesirable core group of bud light drinkers care and are very dedicated to drinking mass quantities of beer, do see where bud is already caving in running "Patriotic" ads which will likely be offensive to the posters here and the Trans peeps, so all the goodwill will be undermined anyway.

More of a future case study for a marketing 401 class, but understand it is all a bit beyond the intellectual capacity of this board and should have been posted for a higher level discussion group.

Do find the childlike musing of the RR entertaining, but frankly I get exposed to the exact same thought from much higher level brains on a daily basis at work, do find the pre-teen like level of enthusiasm charming.

That horseface VP who announced that change in marketing policy should have been fired first of all for being extremely STUPID in the way she decided to put a huge portion of the products consumers down. What the hell did they think was going to happen? Its a shit beer in the first place. Its like drinking near beer or water. Budweiser pissed a lot of people off and they need to apologize.

There was an article about Amazon in Hollywood Reporter a few days ago. Their show A League of Their Own was a disaster according to their own internal research. It was expensive and nobody watched it. They still decided to give it a second season despite what their own research was telling them because they liked the lesbian message in the show so threw another hundred million on to the fire. Its usually the people on the bottom who pay the price for bad management. Amazon throws a hundred million at something they know is a dud while announcing another 10,000 layoffs. Disney is doing the same thing.

Watched a pod where a woman was comparing the Bud Light trans dudes stereotypical presentation of women to white performers working in blackface.

An interesting take, also seeing Title IX arguments popping up against trans participation in collegiate athletics because giving scholarships to trans athletes would cost biological female athletes the scholarships and opportunities that Title IX was created to protect.

Bud Light could get back out in front of this, it would require some groveling to their actual core customer group, likely would have to almost give away a ton of product for free.

I had a discussion today with a close friend and work colleague regarding the bud light thing. He started talking about it and is of the mindset that this and similar situations with other products would affect his spending habits, which I accepted. I then shared my opinion that I could give a flying fuck what the trans crowd drinks and if I’m thirsty and there is bud light offered somewhere at a ballgame or wherever I’m gonna take it and not give a shit. We didn’t argue about it but he did seem a bit overly passionate about it. I told him if the outrage machine wasnt working overtime on this story nobody would give a shit what this person is drinking. I know this doesnt add a lot of new info to this thread, but it was just a weird thing to be talking about and caring about.

A bit more nuanced, it would seem a company would have a good idea of who their target audience is and would tailor marketing campaigns to target those people. This is a new type of marketing campaign where a company is willing to risk offending or alienating customers to show they are in accordance with some odd rule that requires a company to market to a group that not only in not a core market, but a group that likely has absolutely positively no long term interest in their product line.

It is either a brave stance where you are willing to lose millions of dollars, or complete idiocy, but to stick your head in the ground and not be interested in the societal machinations involved, or to be even more obtuse and retreat to your safe space silo because you are afraid to openly discuss certain subjects just seems silly.

If Miller Light were to push a trans person down a flight of stairs would you be more willing to purchase their product?

If MillerCoors runs an ad in which an anthropomorphic Miller Lite can shoves the “it’s Ma’am” meme guy down the stairs…yes. I’m a Miller man.
