We went camping one time at Sadie Cove- it's across the Bay from Homer, AK. With the low tide, the shallow cove has a tremendous recession of water line- our beach campsite was a hundred yards or more from the water at low tide, 20 feet at high tide. We found a crab pot in the shallows, clearly swept there by currents as the water depth was not enough for a commercial crab boat. We waded out and pulled it up to find a couple of dead crabs, but three or four live ones. Probably a felony, but we took the live ones and dumped out the dead ones and cooked them up that night. Even without garlic butter, the crab was the best ever

the guide we hired out of homer for halibut fishing put us on a buddy of his who sold us right-off-the-boat king crab for a 3rd the market price. we bought a bunch ate a ton of it but cooked the rest and froze it and shipped it home.

likewise as GD mentioned stone crab. we were in marathon and a guy at the parking lot of the seafood store was like don't by stonecrab here for 35-40 bucks a lb. he sent us down this these tiny alley way roads to bait shop right on the canal. they had frozen bags of stone crab that were not "restaurant" quality. big claws were 8 bucks a lb. I made it home with about 10lbs.
