Theres a well known phenomenon in civil engineering that says if you make it bigger or better, more people want it, therefore negating the original benefit of providing more.

this can cause a runaway effect. the better or more it is, the more they want.

obviously cities cant sustain this. but when i think about me, i wonder if that's true. i could sustain it, but could they? my dick.

It’s the civil engineering theory behind road expansion/traffic, no? Make it bigger, wider, etc…commute won’t change. More cars will come and water finds its level.

the city has convinced itself that it can eliminate demand with its planning. Don't allow parking to even be proposed as part of new construction and suddenly people won't drive cars...or they will and everyone will be parking on the street. It's always a danger to have people who have never worked in the private sector making decisions about where the market will go.

like st street in madison. WHY ARE THERE BUSSES. that whole street should be a bike bath down the middle, with tables/seating and shopping taking up the rest of the space. it could be a marketplace every day. but no, because the city NEEDS BUSSES driving up and down all damn day for no fucking reason.
