I can't imagine that it's at all easy to defend yourself, even if truly innocent, from allegations about a drunken night 15-20+ years ago. Sadly, society has agreed that's a bit unfair and passed laws making it harder, if not impossible, to prosecute people in those circumstances in which the march of time has withered any possible defense. Thankfully, though, places like California have passed other laws to undo those more pesky statutes.
