I was driving in Warrenville today on Warrenville Rd. when I noticed too late that there was speed display machine in front of me on the right. What was different about this machine is that it had flashing red and white cop lights that went off when I exceeded 5 mph. over, which I did briefly. After passing the machine, I thought there was a chance I would be ticketed because of the police lights going on, but then I thought the machine may not have had a camera and it was just a speed gun. In any case, it seems we are not too far away from having these machines on the road with cameras, where you will be ticketed like you are now with red light cameras. This machine would be a huge revenue generator for local and state police departments if these speed machines are adopted. People would be ticketed with speeding tickets a lot more than they are now. I've been fortunate not to get ticketed for more than ten years, but I don't want to have to drive looking out for these things all the time where you can get flagged for being just 5 mph over. The display machine was sort of concealed where it was behind trees along the road. You had to know it was there to slow down in time. |

They are all over Chicago (e.g. Irvin Park east of the Kennedy). They do have a chilling effect on speed as you'll see everyone driving <30 MPH |

Yeah not exactly breaking news here. In Chicago they are clearly just a money grab. Some jurisdictions use them in construction zones which to me makes sense. I am surprised that is not done more in Illinois. |
