Post subject:  Unable to watch Cubs/Sox/Bulls/Blackhawks

Haven't been able to watch the Cubs legally since July of last year after going to Youtube TV and refuse to pay 20 a month for marquee app. Now I can not watch Bulls or Blackhawks since I am too lazy to get an antenna and both teams are bad. Maybe my opinion will change in a few months but as of now I do not care or miss any of them.

Same. I technically could watch the Cubs but that channel may as well not exist for me.

Bought a digital antenna off Amazon to watch the Hawks/Bulls. We have YouTubeTV, which apparently has no plans to ever reach a deal with CHSN.

Antenna was like $25.

2018: Cutting cable is amazing. I'm saving so much money. Anyone who keeps cable is a moron!
2024: Put an antennae on your window so you can watch your sports teams without dvr!

I guess cable tv wasn't so bad.

This is pure principle. I refuse to pay any amount of money beyond the absurd amount of money I give Comcast to half-watch bad teams while I scroll my phone.

Anybody got a TiVO for sale?

I hear ya. I've also learned that only gets me so far. And $25 was worth it to me so I don't get locked into any contracts.

If the government was for the people and not billionaires like the guys who run metv3+ they'd require all OTA content to be streamable for something like a $10 a year fee.

What’s worse is single channels like AMC have become their own entities. I had AMC+ for a free trial so I could catch some Fear Fest, but the Live broadcasts (essentially like watching the channel itself) had even more irritating ad breaks than the actual cable channel does. They’d play the same exact ad 3 times in a row, and then have 2 minutes of dead air with the ambient music loop…no thanks.

I was watching an old episode of Kids in the Hall through Prime a while back. I got like three-quarters through it and paused it, thinking I'd pick it up later. Kinda forgot to for a few weeks. Opened Prime back up, saw I had to finish it, then found out it has been moved to AMC+ and I need an additional subscription to watch it there. Yeah, this is so much better than cable.

Cord-cutting made sense for a small-ish group of people in 2012 back when Netflix had a large library of well-loved shows. If you didn't need the sports channels that inflated your cable bill, then Netflix, HBO Go, and your vestigial DVD collection could pretty much see you through. What we have today is a nightmare where NFL playoff games get farmed out to the subscription tier of the KFC app. If only we could pay one big bill to watch all the stuff!

In the same boat, brother. Not paying for Marquee to watch a boring team and Reinsdorf has ruined the White Sox and Bulls franchises. Don't care about hockey.

With cable you get 400+ channels you’ll never watch but you’ll have the 8-12 you do. With streaming, 4 of those 8-12 are either their own separate service or they jump from one to another. The house always wins.

I miss Pro Football Weekly. I was getting into a nice routine of watching it every Saturday, and boom. The plug got pulled.

Pisses me off. I have no idea what to do to get the new Sports Channel.

There are like 5 different threads on the topic, but to recap:

1. If you are in the Chicago area, buy an antenna. There are a million on Amazon. This one looks like it will work just fine.
2. Scan your channels. It will be on one of the channel 62 subchannels, I think 62-2. They also use 62-3 if both the Bulls and Hawks are playing at the same time.

If out of market I have good luck streaming from here: https://strikeout.im/

Good luck,

The house only wins if you let it, at least in this context. I have Max and Netflix, and there's more content on both of those channels than I can ever watch. In fact, I could probably get by with dropping one of them and would be just fine.

max and netflix cover 0% of what i watch currently. small example, i like going through the "halloween" series during october. we have max, netflix, hulu, disney+, paramount+, peacock, prime, and all of the free services. it's on none of those. where is it? almost the entire series is only amc+. that's bullshit.

That's annoying as f**k, but is there a reason you have to be subscribed to all those platforms? This is going back a handful of years now, but we have friends that are big TV people and they just close and open their accounts on a month to month basis based on what they want to watch.

Cutting cable and streaming was and is amazing. Maybe cable works for people who watch a shit ton of TV but that's not the flex you think it is. I still save more than $50 a month and that is based on what I was paying 5+ year ago when I cut the cord. You'll be happy to know I'm finally getting my mom to cut the cord.

If you wanna watch the Blackhawks get a VPN and watch ESPN+.

Some of those are shared accounts, and we are still saving a bunch after getting rid of cable. It’s more of a gripe about how these services play tennis with content and it fucks shit up. The stuff we do pay for, we do watch at least a few things. Netflix is the albatross but I decided to go back into “Supernatural” episodes for Halloween. Besides watching the new eps of “Unsolved Mysteries”, which I finished weeks ago, it’s only been useful when we dive back into “Supernatural”.

The thing that bugs me is most of all is how this got away from cable. Prices went insane but I did like having one central resource for everything I watched.

I still don’t understand how we can spend $15-20 a month to hear pretty much any song ever recorded, but even with 5-10 paid streaming services, plus Xfinity On Demand, I can’t watch an old movie like Apollo 13.

I’ve heard the argument that movies/TV cost more than music to produce. But even if true, you can buy BluRays for not that much more than CDs or records. Let’s say they cost four times as much…I would spend $50-60 a month (vs $15 for Spotify) to get EVERYTHING.

Not paying for a product you didn't use is good.

Most people actually watch TV. Good on you for not watching TV though.
