Why would anyone choose to work at a place like this? I've heard of attorneys at law firms working 12 to 14 hour days, seven days a week, for two or three weeks straight, but this appears to be another order of magnitude above that.

Not necessarily. To bill 12 hours, you would have to work at least 13 to 14, unless you're billing for lunch and every bathroom break.

That's the only part of that story that makes sense. I assume these are not the best and brightest investment bankers and have to work like dogs if they want a career in that field.
