Now that it can claim Chicago’s most famous native son as its own how far does it climb? I dunno much about the S Suburbs at all. A bit of experience with NW Indiana but that part of the area is a black hole to me.

One of the most brutally white-flighted suburbs around, on par with actual city neighborhoods. Metra was supposed to build a Southeast Line that ran through Dolton but never got around to it.

I did find it funny that his brother, in the same tone that he denied Pontiff Bob being a Cubs fan, also denied that he ever lived in South Holland.

It is too bad RR is no longer here any more, he would be all over this!

He was born in the city to Chicagoan parents but moved to the south suburbs shortly after. POPE THAT!

you can't live in the suburbs and say you're from Chicago...that's punishable by death .

Maybe the pope can call in a favor and let RR post once a year on Easter.

A fact: you can claim to be from the city even if you went to HS in the burbs if you a) were born in the city and b) achieve. It’s just true, the way it is.

Funny thing. I spent a great deal of time in my childhood in the city with my cousins segregated. I spent the rest at home in a 'suburb' desegregated. It was pretty great. I could be racist all summer and hoop all spring, fall, and winter.

why would METRA build a line to Dolton? Or was that just the start and it was to head straight south? There's METRA service 5 minutes away in Riverdale at 138th and 144th streets? i never heard that before.

At the end of the day I dunno if this is quite enough for Dolton to catch Milwaukee on the rankings. Maybe if they get two popes we can have that conversation.

It was going to go from La Salle Street to Balmoral Park, would have hit South Holland, Glenwood, Chicago Heights, few other towns along the way. The trackage is already there; I think it's what Amtrak uses for service to Champaign and Kankakee. I'm guessing a lot of it would have been redundant with the Electric, and Balmoral Park is gone now anyway.

Your white flight comment is true of every suburb east of I 57 with the exception of Olympia Fields and Homewood Flossmor. Dolton is far from unique in that respect.

Not to mention every neighborhood in the city. He's just parroting some website, anyway.

My sister's in-laws are originally from Dolton. I'm parroting their lament. Not sure why you're so upset.
