Moving into the double wide In April and going from hardwood floors to mostly carpeting. Anyone have one of these overpriced vacuums and are they really that much better than one priced for half that much?

We have one and have had it for a few years and it still works as well as when we first got it. My wife loves it, I'm indifferent it works pretty well however the cannister can be messy to empty. It has lasted longer then any other vacuum we have had so I guess that makes it worth it

They suck. In the bad way. Overpriced and overhyped IMO. (There's a good discussion of them about 100 pages back in the drink thread.)

They are good for getting under/around furniture. That's the only plus I can find with ours. I hate it. I like our old hoover way better, and it was half the price. I could vacuum in half the time with it and I didn't have to wash it/let it dry for 24 hours like with a Dyson.

My wife thinks it's great. You can see after one cleaning how much dust, dander it does pick up (our Corgi sheds enough for three dogs)...Amazing! That said,I see on TV late at night that Dirt Devil has the same type of vacum for much cheaper. I don't know how good that is though.

Pretty sure this part is a gimmick. Every dyson owner says this. It's because the dirt and dust are Ina clear container - that's why you can see it.

We got ours on sale at target day after thanksgiving. Still pissed about it.

Hey BadRogue,Here ya go:

http://ezinearticles.com/?Shark-Navigat ... id=5643542

Talk about a new rival, the SHARK

In recent years, a manufacturer called Dyson revolutionized the vacuum cleaner market by developing a bagless model which maintains suction power even as dirt accumulates in the bin. The product is now being challenged by a similar product called the Shark navigator vacuum cleaner. We'll review these two vacuums and try to determine which one is better.

The Shark navigator vacuum cleaner has been promoted very heavily on cable television ads. It does not yet have the name recognition of Dyson. However this product sells for around half the cost of a comparatively featured Dyson model.

The Shark vacuum weighs only 15 pounds but it does offer impressive performance. There are no bags which need replacement; the suction stays strong throughout a vacuuming session; and the filters only need to be replaced twice a year. In addition the product has the same five year warranty as a Dyson product.

So in answering the basic question regarding which product is better, I would have to say it is pretty much a tie. If you compare both products side by side there is almost no difference whatsoever in terms of its cleaning ability, ease of use, and the warranty coverage.

The only major difference found was in the cost. A Shark navigator costs about $200 while a similar Dyson model goes for almost $500.

So why do people still buy a Dyson model? Well when there is that kind of price difference, many people still believe there is a clear difference in performance. After all, they reason how can anyone justify all that extra cost if the performance is the same?

Also Dyson has a very well known and respected name. There is almost a status symbol attached to owning one of these products. So some consumers like this and want to know that they own a world class product.

And Dyson is still a much more recognized brand so consumers may feel that the company will be around to support them for some time to come. They may not want to risk having a problem with the Shark brand and then be unable to get it serviced if the company doesn't stay in business.

But in actually the company behind the Shark Navigator seems to be solid and steady. Therefore as I see it, you should consider this product because you will get the same level of performance but at a much lower price.

Dave Roth runs a website that features ".vacuumcleanerplace.com" on top models on the market. The website features reviews on Dyson vacuum reviews, Oreck, and Miele as well as user ratings and experiences.

  This is the one we currently have jp. Bought it at Sears 2 years ago. It does a good job, clear container just like Dyson. Was just wondering if the Dyson is worth the extra 200 or so as we are moving to a home with mostly carpeting on both stories and our lazy asses can't be bothered to actually lug a vacuum up and down the stairs each time we want to vacuum so we were thinking of buying one for both floors.

We have a clear container hoover that does not work nearly as well as the dyson. You can come over and test it if you want.

I've heard the sharks are almost or just as good.

The hand dryers are freaking awesome. The Spaulding girls get very excited when we see them. I wonder how much they cost.

Not a fan. Got one as a gift when getting married. We had a $90 bag-style Hoover that worked just fine. What really pisses me off are the attachedments - no flexability.

According to the internet, the cost of 100 people drying their hands w/ the airblade = the cost of 1 paper towel.

Those things hurt my hands as the air is coming out too hard and fast. I like the other brand of hand dryers, I think there is a panasonic one that doesn't seem to hurt as hard

They are awesome and have never hurt my hands to use but them again my hands are made up of plain old skin and bone so that may be a difference maker in using them.

The air out of the dyson ones just seems to come out too hard and has caused my hands to get chapped and icky.

The air is strong, but I like it. Makes my skin ripple.
