Ive called around to a few oil change places and cheapest I found was $100. Was reading online about doing this yourself but not sure about going that route. |

it is probably 134a...but it will tell you under the hood...they sell 134a at autozone ..and conversion kits if it is not 134a..easy to do ...do it your self |

If you still have some gas in your system, it'll be easy. If it has all leaked out, it's a bit more involved. You can buy a canister of 134a with a gauge and hose built in. It gets attached to the suction side of your system (it's the larger of the two pipes, and might have a light blue cap on it). Hook up the hose and see what pressure you have. If it registers anything at all, just follow the instructions on the can. If there's zero pressure, you're probably better off having it fixed. |

Cons, it's probably 134a. I have a recharge hose. I can take care of this for you for a shitload less that $100. It's pretty easy, you just need a couple pounds of refrigerant and the hose... You'll turn on the car Turn on AC at max the hose only fits on the right port, the other end screws onto the 134 can. You shake the refrigerant out by turning the can from 12 to 6 over and over. You can do this for about $20 for refrigerant. The hose is about $10 or $20. I have one. If you're in the Itasca area on weekdays or you want to drive out by my area tomorrow I can fix you up. |

Oh yeah... I've also got the pressure gauges too. A quickie internet search says that the Cav takes 134a. |

a bucket of warm water makes it much faster, put canister in bucket and speeds it up |

Very timely thread. Driving home today in the inherited PT Cruiser, I noticed the AC is a little poor. Will probably take this task on myself even though my car fixing experience is limited to changing a tire and putting in a secret code to keep the thing beeping at me when my seat belt is off. |

Run AC full fan for a day or two. If it fails again you have a leak in the system. Usually a seal or line. Quick fix if you can locate the trouble spot. Usually it is right by the compressor or AC pump. If you feel air out of a line or see what looks like moisture or smoke (wet and Quickly dries) that is your trouble spot. |
