This is part of the website. They explain what is on their caps. They couldn't come up with something simple like the Knights,Arrows, etc.??

Just What is a Boomer?

The Boomers are proud to honor the Great Prairie Chicken, a native bird of Illinois.

The word "boomer" is a nickname for the male Greater Prairie Chicken and refers to the loud "booming" sound the bird makes during mating season. The noise is produced by the inflatable orange patches on each side of the male prairie chicken's neck. The males also have a yellow-orange comb over their eyes and special neck feathers that rise up when the bird is performing its courtship display on the "lek" or "booming grounds." Female prairie chickens are plain looking and lack the colorful markings of the males.

The elaborate courtship ritual of the Greater Prairie Chicken is well known in the world of nature. The male "boomers" face off with each other and spar on the lek, doing their best to capture the attention of the bystanding females. It is a scene that plays out every spring morning in suitable prairie habitat in several Midwest and Great Plains states.

As seen in the Schaumburg Boomers logo, the Greater Prairie Chicken is a very distinctive bird. It's colorful markings, spirited courtship display and unique "booming"call places this species in a league of its own!

I live literally 2 minutes from the stadium. I'm sure I"ll check out a game or two on a warm summer night. Lawn and beers with baseball is not a bad thing.

Considering the wide goofy epic stupidity that some minor league brands feature, the mating ritual of the prairie hen/chicken/whatever fits right in.

FRANK: What is this thing anyway?

MRS. ROSS: It's Cornish gamehen.

FRANK: What is that, like a little chicken?

GEORGE: It's, uh, it's not a little chicken. [laughing] Little chicken. It's a gamebird.

FRANK: Gamebird?

GEORGE: Yeah.

FRANK: What do you mean? Like, you - you hunt it?

MR. ROSS: Yes.

FRANK: How hard could it be to kill this thing?

ESTELLE: I couldn't help but notice that you have quite a library in there.

MRS. ROSS: If I had a dime for every book he's actually read, [laughing] I'd be broke.

SUSAN: More wine anyone?

FRANK: Yeah. I'll take some.

SUSAN: Hmmm?

FRANK: Thank you.

SUSAN: How do you like the Merlot?

ESTELLE: Merlot? I never heard of it. Did they just invent it?

MRS. ROSS: Oh, mother.

GEORGE: She's, uh, she's heard of Merlot.

FRANK: Let me understand, you got the hen, the chicken and the rooster. The rooster goes with the chicken. So, who's having sex with the hen?

GEORGE: Why don't we talk about it another time.

FRANK: But you see my point here? You only hear of a hen, a rooster and a chicken. Something's missing!

MRS. ROSS: Something's missing all right.

MR. ROSS: They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them.

FRANK: That's perverse.

GEORGE: Did anybody see Firestorm?

MR. ROSS: Firestorm, that's a hell of a picture.

GEORGE: Yeah.

MR. ROSS: Remember when they had the helicopter land on top of that car --

FRANK: Hey! Hey! Come on! Come on! I haven't seen it yet!

MR. ROSS: It doesn't have anything to do with the plot!

FRANK: Still! Still! I like to go in fresh!

GEORGE: Oh mother of God.

The ballpark is fine.

Getting in and out of there when there is a crowd is a gigantic pain in the ass.

Independent baseball...keep it.

Really?

I went to 2 Flyers games in my lifetime, and there was maybe 100 people there max each time.

Flyers attendance tailed off at the end...this is a new attraction that will draw the most annoying people possibl...I mean Schaumburg residents.

The real problem is that there is one way in, one way out.

I'm not really sure what the new attraction might be. Bad baseball has replaced bad baseball. Watching minor league washouts is not very exciting, and is often painful.

Which side are you on and which side is Biggie on, need to know where my allegiance should be.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great attraction for families...the whole family can go to a game for the cost of what it would be for one person to go to Wrigley or the Cell for a game. They will draw the curious from the community. They will probably be a big draw this summer because it's new. Can it be sustained? I'm guessing no. In the long run, bad baseball is bad baseball.

A club like The Wolves survive because they're a real minor league franchise. It's really bad hockey, but it's still got support from a long standing league.

The Boomers are literally a traveling semi-pro league.
