So....some friends and I were gonna go to IL Beach State Park camping this weekend. Because of the dry weather them and everybody else in southern Wisconsin has a fire ban. No campfires, no grills. So, we cancelled.

Anybody know of campsites that are relatively close (3 hours or so) that allows alcohol, has no burn ban, and might have enough free sites to accommodate 10-15 people this weekend?

Think long and hard on this one Frank.

Do you really want to stay overnight at a place that KS has the address to?

Thanks, KS. I'll call Phrophetstown tomorrow and get their info.

Clinton....we went there 2 years ago. The lake cools a nuclear reactor so the water is literally about 90 degrees

I can vouch for this one. We spent many a night there back in the day, good lake and nice campsites. As long as the nuke plant stays quiet, you'll be fine. It is a long drive for you, though.

This is the goods Frank.

Parents spend weeks on end here...beautiful place. The sites are located in a forested area so you will have lots of privacy. There's also a really nice lake nearby.

We camp at peninsula state park in door county, but the drive may be a little much? Campsites are nice and the park has lots of hiking/biking trails, if that's your thing. Can also rent boats and go out on green bay. I always have a couple drinks around the campfire, but I'm actually not sure what the official alcohol policy is? Usually, the sites fill up, although we were there last week from Sun- Wed, and the place was half empty mid-week.

Who the hell wants to camp when it is 90+ degrees? Camp at the Hilton.

Turkey Run State Park in Indiana. Straight shot down 41 and can get there in 3.5 hours from my house way up nort here. Our family has been going here for 35 years. Awesome wooded campsites, clean bath/shower facilites, and amazing hiking trails. Kayaking/canoeing is fun too but I am guessing the water level is way too low. Liberal alcohol policy of course :drunken:

Definitely worth looking into.

Turkey Run, Phrophets town are among about 8 possible sites we will be looking into today. Thanx for the suggestions everybody!!

Clinton has a fire ban as well

It's just really frustrating. We start planning this in like February to get everybody available on the same weekend. Its great fun, and we all really look forward to it. This really took the wind out of our sails. Stupid weather.

Camping in this weather is only to be done if you have a camper with AC.

Frank, have you considered finding someone with a camper or cottage and offering them money to use it?

Its only going to be 87-90 this weekend depending on where we go. Its supposed to be in the upper 60's in Zion Friday and Saturday night, so that would have been fine to sleep in. We do tent camping, this would be my 5th year in a row and for some of the group its going to be their 7th or 8th year in a row. We've been thru mild weather, stormy weather, and real hot weather.

I give Turkey Run my vote of support as well. I was just at Potato Creek this weekend and we could have fires. Potato Creek is near South Bend, great campsites but the hiking trails leave a little to be desired.

Turkey Run is awesome. I remember going canoeing there in college and there was a bridge everyone would dive off of.

This is banned now - too many people got hurt.

They do have cabins for rent there and a hotel. Not roughing it but can still enjoy the trails and activities.
