I dunno, guys, while standing up to bullying is admirable, I feel like she really had to whip herself up to crusade against it because she got an email. While yes, his message can be distilled to "hey, fatty, lose some weight," I'm not entirely sure it has the malice and persistence needed to constitute bullying. And if obese people can't read the news in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where can they?

She's in Wisconsin. She would be considered slim.

I think that she's deflected the criticism of being overweight and being a role model for her kids and other women by spinning the e-mail in a discussion about bullying. I think the original question is very legitimate and for her to turn it around and make the person asking the question a bad guy is very typical of our society today...I don't need to take personal responsibility for my harmful actions and you are a bully for asking me to do so.

The fact that there are many reported offers to interview this woman by various media outlets as some sort of hero makes me sick.

Fact - she is overweight, which is harmful to her health. She is not providing a healthy model for her children to emulate. Calling her fat is accurate. Calling her obese (by SOME doctor's weight charts as she mentions...give me a break) is accurate. Calling her an ugly, disgusting, porcine that should be relegated to a career of a Jerry Springer-watching house frau and shutting her pie hole would be bullying.

She put herself in public eye. She needs to accept the criticism by taking personal responsibility for her lack of discipline...unless, of course, she has a glandular problem that makes her grossly overweight, or retain water, or is unusually big boned, or takes medication that make her fat, or....

I will not minimize the impacts of bullying and would be the first to defend her if the e-mail rose to that level.

I agree with everything skagman said.

Unless parts were left out, this has to be the most polite "bully" ever:

"Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you'll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle."

I watched her on-air reply to that big ol' meanie and it was quite overwrought, empty, and seemed as though she was addressing a different email entirely. She trotted out the old "You don't know me..." nonsense which, of course, doesn't change the fact that her current physical condition is jeopardizing her health. You don't have to know someone personally to know that their being 100 lbs. overweight is bad for their health.

But, her husband posted the email on Facebook and got almost 1,000 positive and supportive replies. It's sad that people think that validates anything. She's desperately tried to spin this into something it's not, and I hope she gets called on it.

Oh...I thought it was pretty tasteless of her to try and tie in her situation with people being mistreated because of their race, sexual orientation, etc.

Grandstanding cretin.

It will be interesting to see if she loses weight or if she takes a spokesperson job for a weightloss product.

Absolutely. I thought the letter was going to be something like "Kill yourself, Lard Ass"

The letter was actually polite. He expressed how he believes she is sending a bad message.

Frankly, I'm surprised Jim Hendry thought he could comment on someone else's weight.

The person who wrote the letter is a nut and probably has mental issues. Unless this tubbo is your wife or mother who gives a fuck if she tips the scales at 300 lbs?

Well, this grandstanding silliness is going viral, so it's something to put on the demo reel. Maybe she can use this to climb up the ladder and go from the La Crosse-Eau Claire market to the teeming metropolis of Duluth.

I honestly can't believe people can't see through this and are cheering her as some sort of hero for "taking a stand." Taking a stand against what? Prudent health advice?

Is she going accuse her doctor of bullying when he tells her she has the diabeetus and needs to lose weight?

Wait - you think sending letters to complete strangers and telling them how to live their lives is normal?
And then to base the letter on her appearance? Hmmm.......I can't exactly blame her for this one.

The normality of sending her that email wasn't the issue, at least not the one I was discussing. I certainly don't think the email constitutes bullying and I think her response, and the praise it's received, is silly.

Does that news station in LaCrosse still use cameras from 1992? Even WCIU has better picture quality.

The email may have been "polite" but since when are people on the news role models who need to set an example for kids?

That caught my attention too. I spent a year in Davenport, and thought their news was pretty bush league. I'd have to say LaCrosse is worse. Talent wise, I seem to remember a rather fetching weather girl in the QC, but she was the exception rather than the rule. There was one particular news women that made the LaCrosse girl look like Kate Moss. She looked like a waterbed with a head.

This.

Guy sends her a private email and her husband takes it public. She admitted the guy was right too. And then compares herself to someone who is disabled or the object of racism. Strange stuff.

The rebuttal...

Quote:
Personal Injury Lawyer Who Called News Anchor Too Fat for TV: Whatever, She's Still Fat

By Neetzan Zimmerman, Oct 3, 2012 4:32 PM

Personal injury lawyers are not very well liked in general, but Kenneth Krause managed to make himself the most hated man in America after he wrote a Wisconsin news anchor to complain that she's far too overweight to set a good example for young viewers, "girls in particular."

Despite the backlash against his letter brought on by Jennifer Livingston's four-minute on-air response, Krause, who is clearly into his looks (see photo above), has released a statement doubling down on his comments:

Given this country's present epidemic of obesity and the many truly horrible diseases related thereto, and considering Jennifer Livingston's fortuitous position in the community, I hope she will finally take advantage of a rare and golden opportunity to influence the health and psychological well-being of Coulee Region children by transforming herself for all of her viewers to see over the next year, and, to that end, I would be absolutely pleased to offer Jennifer any advice or support she would be willing to accept.

On CBS This Morning, Livingston, who just so happens to be the sister of Office Space actor Ron Livingston, said weight has been a constant struggle since giving birth to her first child a decade ago.

"If I could snap my fingers to be a size that I don't have to shop on the plus size rack that would be great, but I'm not ashamed of myself," she said. "Talk to me about the stories I cover, not the way I look."

Livingston invited Krause to appear on her show, but Krause declined.
