I never talked about this, but about 14 years ago I took my son and his friend to go see a semi-pro basketball game. It was the new ABA league. The Chicago entry played at the Horizon and was coached by Joey Meyer. We walked in to the arena that hold about 15,000. There could not have been more than 60 people in the whole place. I saw Ray Meyer walk in to watch his son's team. I could just imagine what was going through his mind. DePaul used to pack the place in it's glory days. Now he watched his son playing in front of basically friends and family. It was pretty sad. The game itself was great. They had special rules. The defense get 3 point baskets if they make a steal, etc. That was an interesting evening.

I went to a Cubs game once. That was pretty sad.

2011 Eastern Conference Finals Game 5.

It looked like the Bulls were going to extend the series at least 1 more game, and were in control with about 4-5 minutes left with a double digit lead. With about two minutes left, the lead had evaporated, and they were dead in the water. The United Center had 23,000+ inside it, but it was like a tomb in there. I've never experienced such a quiet moment around that many people.

Although quite joyous at the time I would have to put mine down as when I was at the Cubs
game in 2008 when they clinched the Central Division at Wrigley. Little did I know that was
the beginning of a long spiral downwards.

i know, right? baseball is truly a motherfucker.... it seems like one moment you're gleefully cutting off the goat's head to hang from the harry caray statue, and the next minute you're back to your longstanding tradition of asking god "why?"

1992 Stanley Cup Finals Game 4...didn't really think I'd have to wait almost 20 years to see my team in the finals again.

Probably the first games in back in St. Louis after the deaths of Joe Buck and Darryl Kile, respectively. The Kile tribute was gut-wrenching when they showed his two kids on the field. I definitely teared up.

When did Joe Buck die, and why wasn't I notified?

Who is Aikman working with now?

I know you mean Jack Buck, but christ on a stick I fucking hate Joe Buck.

Ha...dammit. Good catch. Yes, I meant Jack. That wasn't as sad considering he was three months shy of 113 when he passed. As SHARK would say, he wasn't getting any younger.

to be OT here, for me it was pretty easily game 1 of the 1993 ALCS when the white sox got pantsed by toronto..... and then people seemed to be talking about michael jordan on the way out, and sure enough, we find out on radio on the car ride home that jordan had retired.... complete with the sears tower having creative night-lighting to say bye mike or something like that on the face of the building, which was seen on our drive back to the NW burbs from comiskey.

that was just..... yeeeargh. total dickkick for the chicago sports fan not properly equaled since.

ditto. That was their last chance and even after Kerry hit that homer, there was a sense of inevitability that the Marlins would win.

Where were you sitting, Dan?

My very first game at Lambeau was the 2012 NFC Divisional game.

Edit: Close second was seeing tOSU last year end their 7-year domination of UM. Can't wait for another one to begin.

I can top that cause I was at the same game and on the way out we had one cop waving us through while the other cop decided to wave the cross traffic through and we got t-boned 2 blocks from Comiskey. Drove to police station to fill out report and while sitting in the car heard on the radio that MJ had retired. WORST. SPORTING. EVENT. EVER.

That would be the better answer, but I didn't attend that (shocking I know) .... actually, I did at one point play intermural basketball in college believe it or not .... slow, but a decent pass-stealer, have no idea why. And I recall with great fondness sinking a nonchalant 3 against the asshole Dean of Students at seminary in a 3-3 pickup game, calling it as I shot. Who cares .... I'll shut up now.

:weelchairbb: Trying to imagine Don Tiny dropping a 3 and leaving his wrist up in the air as he
backs down the court, staring down the asshole Dean. :P

In the fall of 2002 my longtime partner in the racing business passed away suddenly. We had raced a lot of top horses together, drank a lot of beer together, had a lot of fun together. For me, racing was never going to be quite the same again.

The star of the barn heading into '03 was Yankee Cruiser. I didn't own any of him as he only cost about $25,000 and I had used my last bullets buying a $97,000 colt named Everlasting Art in Lexington that promptly bowed both front tendons training down and only raced two or three times in his career. I should have found an extra $6,250 to partner on Cruiser. God knows I could have back then. But anyway, Yankee Cruiser and My Fantasy, a filly I did own, were the last two really top notch horses Brian had "made", so of course we were all pulling for them.

Brian's dad and Scott Forbes did a super job pointing the colt for the North America Cup. It was one exciting race. A fucking shame Brian wasn't there to see it. I'm sure Bobcat was crying his eyes out going across the wire. I know I was.
