They have a disclaimer saying they'll shut it down unless users send them donations. They also claim they're the number 5 most visited website in the world. If you're the numer 5 website, sell some advertisement. Why won't they do that? |

That's not what the disclaimer says. |

I believe the answer is because they would like people to give them money. |

There's an "X" at the top of the page. That's one way to eliminate the nagging message Wikipedia is offering. |

FACT: i used to go through brittney griner's article and remove any and all instances of "she" and "her" from it. i think after awhile i pissed off one of the wikiknights who patrols for the cause and now the article is semi/protected, but for a few years you'd read that article and their would be nary a "she" or "her" describing "brittney." my work there was done. also, these glasses aren't cheap: |

immessedup17 wrote: Funny, but those occurrences are rare, and you didn't change it to "he," did you? Maybe a "it scored 22 points while grabbing 7 boards." no, as memory serves i was just quite liberal with using the name "brittney" in place of personal pronouns. i just wanted it to be as ambiguous as possible without being flagrantly obvious that i was doing what i was doing.... but there's seriously some deranged fuckers who hang out on wikipedia for hours a day who go around and look to fix things FOR TEH CAUSE and now i'm sad to report that the article has a few "she" and "her"-s in it. i was clearly the hero that wikipedia needed, but didn't deserve. |

Also, Wikipedia wouldn't want to be viewed as biased. If they started to have PETA as a sponsor...one could start to question the content you'd find in animal entries, as an example. IMU was forced to make a sensible post here and you should all be fucking ashamed of yourselves for it. |

The CSFMB, the voice of the Chicago sports fan isn't relevant enough for a Wiki page but a fucking bar owner can pay someone to carefully curate his Wiki and I was scolded when I stripped out all the content and noted that it was nothing more than an advertisement? |

The simple fact that IMU is editing Wiki pages is reason enough not to rely upon them for truth and accuracy. if wiki's non-prophet and SOOOOO IMPORTANT that it has to transcend the bernsteinesque sponsors-are-off-limits policy.... then like, comeon... this should be subsidized by teh UN or something as an important consortium of collected human knowledge or something..... not an overglorified sanctimonious subvertively-brilliant website that's permanently got a couple'a meaty fingers up google's twat whenever you search something in the hopes of secretly/subtly revising human history over the long term..... colbert covered it awhile back when the w(/)rd was "wikiality" * twilight zone theme broadcast directly to my tinfoil hat * You're an "indie" type guy, yes? I'm very surprised that you don't believe someone could be a big enough fan of something obscure. I've only edited Wiki a few times...but only because it is usually done already. If I notice a page of something "lesser known," and I know it, sure I'll add the info. The simple fact that IMU is editing Wiki pages is reason enough not to rely upon them for truth and accuracy. |
