Is this a tragedy or funny to you?

Nicholas Wieme loved making short films when he was growing up in a small town in Minnesota, a theatrical passion that would lead him to Chicago.

On Wednesday evening, the 23-year-old climbed onto the roof of the InterContinental Chicago hotel, with its famed onion-shaped dome, to take photographs when the night went terribly wrong.

Wieme fell into a smokestack and became wedged, beginning an elaborate, hourslong rescue attempt by firefighters that ultimately proved futile

I don't know what you would find funny about that story.

I don't find it funny, and I don't think he "deserved" to die, but the guy was stupid for doing what he did.

I need to hear Bernsie's take on it, before I can call it a tragedy.

Stupid people die in stupid ways...and that's ok.

not a tragedy. a tragedy is a plane crash or school fire that kills 50 kids. this is just stupid.

I think we have all done pretty dumb things at one time or another. If alcohol or drugs
were involved then I feel really bad for him. If he did this on his own straight, and judging by
photos of the building, that was a really dumb thing to do in the middle of the night.

It perhaps may surprise some people that I chose "involved in a terrible accident" without any hesitation.

I chose the last option. I don't really think it's funny, but this guy is a top candidate for the Darwinian Award.

"Deserved his faith". I'll go with that one because I like options that make no sense whatsoever...

Question: I know the autopsy isn't done yet, but how would he have died? He 22 foot fall didn't kill him...he was communicating with his girlfriend after getting stuck. Smoke inhalation? They wouldn't have turned off whatever while trying to get him out?

that must have been a pretty wild text to receive

"hey baby, i'm texting you from inside a smokestack "

No. She was up there with him. On the roof. Vocally communicating with her.

He had Sprint. There was no service on that roof.

I like the hats. They present a certain pious look, that I look for in a religion.

We also would have accepted "Smoke Handler".
