A new year usually is the wake up call people look for to jump start their goals. Nothing special for me. I'm just looking to continue modest 2012 running improvements. I'd also like to restart the swimming and lifting for variety.

As for a resolution I'm going to start flossing daily.

I want the Oakland Raiders to make a committment to excellence. Because it's been a while.

I'm going to finish the rehab on my Aunt's 3-flat in Lakeview before the year is over. Not gonna take any money for it either. It was my Grandfathers before she got it and I'm doing it as much in his memory as for my Aunt. Already did the 3rd floor apartment (she rents 2 floors and lives on 1). Still have the other 2 floors, the hallways and exterior left. Plus, the landscape, it needs to be totally redone.

I always figure that charging relatives for work on income producing property is ok. They are making money from the sweat of your brow so you deserve a little compensation.

I'm thinking Stevie is angling for a little inheritance when Spada pays his Aunt a visit.

I'm glad to hear that elmhurst steve is so perfect that his New Years resolution is to do free work for his aunt.

My resolution is to try and stay out of jail and pay my bills ontime.

I like Mac, but he's paid for all the work done at his home. Why you think otherwise, I have no idea. I have given him very fair rates but nothig gratis.

I continued to pay for a gym membership for Mrs. Scorehead & I in 2012, & neither one of us went even one time. Nada. Zip. That changes Jan 7 when the commitment to excellence returns!

My Aunt has had 2 heart attacks in the past year and a half and used up what little money she had on medical expenses, so she couldn't afford to have the 3rd floor re-painted after her last tennant moved out. She called to ask if I could help her out and she would pay me when she could. I hadn't seen the building for several years and it shocked me to see the condition it was in. I wound up totally rehabbing the 3rd floor and a new tennant just moved in this past weekend. So now she has income from both apartments and things are better. But she needs her own place done too. It's in bad shape and she just can't afford to have it done. Some day I'm gonna die and be reunited with my Grampa and my Dad and I know they are gonna be happy I did the work over there. Plus, my wife likes my Aunt (who also likes her too) and she likes that I'm doing the work for her.

Douchebag-you may be right .....perhaps my Aunt will leave the 3 flat to me when she passes. She has no children and it's entirely possible. But I hope she lives another 20 years and I promise you that the prospect of any inheritance has nothing to do with helping her out. I just want the place to look like it did when my Grampa was alive and owned it.

It's only logical. You made a long drive to Indiana when there were many painters available in the area without the overhead of that. Mac isn't stupid either. He isn't picking a guy from Burbank to paint his house unless he's getting a really good deal. I don't doubt that he paid "something" but I would guess that it was mostly just the cost of the materials and labor for the workers.

I guess instead of free, I should say that you basically worked for free.

I met many of the Score personalities originally while painting the old place on Belmont ave. I was there when all the guys were doing mock broadcasts in preparation for beginning the Score. Danny Lee (original owner of the station and WXRT) was a customer for years. I think he might have passed away, as I have not been contacted by him in years now and he was dealing with cancer treatments last time I did work for him at his home. I have done work for Dan Jiggets as well as Mike North besides Danny Mac. I got to play golf at Royal Melbourne while working for Jiggets (he lives in Long Grove on the golf course) and none of these guys ever asked for or expected any "special pricing". They just want a good job at a fair price and thats what I have always given them. As far as the "long drive" goes, it's about an hour and 15 minute drive for me. Most of my jobs are in Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth and Glencoe and are 50-60 minutes away. So the extra 15-25 minutes doesn't really constitute much additional "overhead".

I am going to once again try to get my ass in gear and lose my spare tire. I am not getting any younger
and will just get tougher the older I get. At 36, this could be one of my last few years to make a significant
dent through strenuous exercise. I also need to do a better job with my diet. We will see what happens.

If weight loss is the ultimate goal a clean diet has an incredibley larger effect than exercise.

Even though I've heard the fact over and over I kept scoffing at the notion. This past year I went from averaging 10-15 miles a week running to 20-25. I sprinkled in some hill runs and swimming too but saw no real net change in weight. I'm physically faster but my snacking and sweet tooth erases the effect of my exercise.

I've seen the light!

I don't disagree with your findings. Weight loss is a big part of the goal but I really would like to become an athlete
again so even if I don't lose as much as I would like but put on some solid muscle and look better I could ultimately
live with that. I need to shed about 30 lbs. I have hovered between 255 and 230 the last couple of years. I am
sitting at about 240 right now. I don't belong to a health club right now for various reasons but my apartment complex
has some treadmills and a couple of adjustable weight machines that I can utilize. I could also do some things in my
apartment like crunches and planking exercises as well as good old pushups. I would love to run at least 15 miles a week
once I hit my groove.
