He has to be hoping that by giving this apology, he has some hope to start down the road to forgiveness. Oprah gives him the stage to make the apology an "event" and she can help him to accentuate the good his Livestrong organization has done and offer him the opportunity to repair his image somewhat, if she is so inclined.
