Schaumburg The Cultural Mecca of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! We have a PF Changs, and an Applebees! There's a Gameworks, and a big ass mall. What more could any sane person want??? The only way that story would have been better was if my crack whore of an ex boss had gotten arrested. |

Except that Cleveland has the Rock n Roll HOF which is cooler than anything Schaumburg has. Plus, I'm pretty sure Elmhurst Steve lives in Schaumburg now, at least according to his website.

It was entirely fair, as I'd never pay $18 for a new CD (even tho the fanboy in me will drop $30 on "limited" vinyl if its a new squarepusher album or something) and the policy was weird in that the store encouraged employees to bring in all their friends and give them the discount, as the only personas non grata were ex-employees. IDK how it worked or promoted the place as I'd never buy a damn thing without the discount, but hey c'est la vie. My friend eventually moved up to ordering hiphop and was able to nab me a limited edition 4x12" solesides greatest bumps at their cost. it was a beautiful thing. but yeah, that place was home of many well-soundtracked happy-go-stoned nights and will be sorely missed. funniest moment = eminem doing an in-store during the buildup to the slim shady LP (during the rise from complete obscurity to superstardom, you know, a ~6 month period) and someone tries calling him up through the store and my friend is naive enough to go "uhhh, mister eminem, i have a call for you on line 4" and em, clearly getting used to his newfound star status, simply asked "are you some sort of a fucking idiot? who the hell would call me here?!" my friend was huffy and all "i'm just doing my job" about it, and for years as we both had our ventures with quasi-white-rapperdom ray would never want to listen to any eminem, not because he kind of put on a clinic of how to rap that reminds you of your place in the grand scheme of things, but because "he was a dick." god bless minutae... these are the days of schaumburg lives. |
