When I had waffles this morning for breakfast, I noticed they were really soft when I took them out of the freezer. There were also a couple of partially soft burritos in there (insert joke). Could it have been defrosting, or is there a problem w/ the freezer?

Maybe the temp is too low?

It's was on the "recommended" setting. I had since moved it one slot towards "colder".

No, freezers are not designed to keep things frozen.

Take all you food and put it in a box and place it outside. It's winter and you can save it if it isn't all thawed out already. Then shut the whole thing down and let all the ice buildup melt out of it. Sometimes that shit builds up and stops the fan from working, the air from flowing....etc.

Also, vacuum out the coils on the back of the freezer... the condenser coils. Sometimes they get full of shit and they don't release the heat... so to speak.

Hey Darkside,
I have a bottom freezer that sometimes leaks water. We can't figure out why. No other issues (such as a soft corndog). The fridge works fine.

Automatic ice maker? Does it have a drip pan that needs cleaning perhaps?

Check to make sure the seal on the door is still good. It may not be closing tight.

The seal is good. I'm going to vacuum the coils per Darkside, they do have a layer of dust on them. My fridge is working fine, & I'd hate to have to go the UMN route, but I might not have a choice.

I had a cheap fridge/freezer at an apartment years ago that had the freezer kinda crapped out and to avoid actually shutting it down I think I took off a cover and accessed some duct or tube that was supposed to be carrying the cool air that was was iced over not allowing the air to pass. I poured boiling water down it and it worked and melted it. That was trial and error and not caring about breaking anything because it was the apartment's cheap piece of crap.

It sounds like it's doing what my freezer did. I'm not sure what the guy replaced cuz it was 5 years ago and I don't remember. I do recall it being about ~$150-200 tho. Whatever he replaced was in the freezer, not accessed from the rear panel. Thermostat?

Just to make sure, this fridge isn't in a cold garage, is it? Freezers do not work well when the ambient temp goes below 40 degrees (I know, it's counterintuitive).

Dingdingding! My heater's been on the fritz the past 4 days & it's been cold in here. I don't go in the freezer too often, so I didn't notice if anything was up until today. Unfortunately, the new heater won't get in until tomorrow. I hope when the place warms up it'll go back right.

Also, I took a layer of dust off the coils in the back, so I hope that helps. Just keeping it shut now.
