Blacks aren't always african americans.

So... just Bob or Bez or Jim would do I guess.

My kids and I were watching a show on Black History month. My oldest asked me what the most respectful way to refer to black people. I couldn't answer it. Most of my friends prefer "black," and some even find African American offensive. Yet I still here many news sources using African American as a descriptor.

Either is acceptable, but African American is more politically correct so I'd suggest using that if you're in doubt.

I wouldn't suggest ever saying that unless in jest.

The overwhelming trend is to say "black" though, no?

In my experience, black people only tend to say African American in public forums or when amongst other ethnicities. We tend to call each other black.

I call them friends.

Back in my day, they wasn't called Chicanos or Anglo-Americans or Afro-Americans, we was all Americans so if a guy was a jig or a gentleman, it was his own business.

I've never met a brother named Bob. Every black dude I've ever known named Robert went by Robert except one who goes by Rob.

LOL it does seem they are few and far between.

EDIT I am not counting Bobby Bonds.

Bob n Bobby are the same, I have several friends named Bob n call them Bob or Bobby ...I'm sure Bobby rush or Bobby Jackson have

many people in their life who call them Bob sometimes.


I have never said African American ...the term is silly...like European American.
