My kids and I were watching a show on Black History month. My oldest asked me what the most respectful way to refer to black people. I couldn't answer it. Most of my friends prefer "black," and some even find African American offensive. Yet I still here many news sources using African American as a descriptor. |

Blacks aren't always african americans. So... just Bob or Bez or Jim would do I guess. |

When I'm posting, I usually default to A-A as less likely to cause any discussion. |

Either is acceptable, but African American is more politically correct so I'd suggest using that if you're in doubt. |

The overwhelming trend is to say "black" though, no? In my experience, black people only tend to say African American in public forums or when amongst other ethnicities. We tend to call each other black. |

I don't think anyone has referred to me as a European American, so I never usually call anyone an African American. Thats my philosophy. |

You have to be careful what you say because you never know when you might be offending liberal white people. |

Can't count the number of times I have had to alter my conversation to not include the term "balck". |

And no "Bobby" doesn't count, I can think of a dozen brothers named Bobby, but virtually no "Bob(s)" I don't particularly care for "African" American, but to each his own. |

Bob n Bobby are the same, I have several friends named Bob n call them Bob or Bobby ...I'm sure Bobby rush or Bobby Jackson have many people in their life who call them Bob sometimes. I have never said African American ...the term is silly...like European American. |

Larry is a weirdo n thin skinned bitch....the only reason why people call him Larry is he hates it. Bobby Simmons isn't going to give a fuck if you call him Bob. |
