Over the years many of you have shared that you lurked for a while before making your first post. I curious about why it took you so long. It's hard for me to read the board and not post. I couldn't imagine doing it for months and years.

Can't remember how long for sure but I think I only lurked a month or so...

...probably mostly to do with the fact that I couldn't give two shits about Chicago sports...once I figured out that off topic discussions were frequent here, I dove right in...and started making horrible posts.

Part of mine was being from Wisconsin, I knew I would get shit for that. Just took me a while to feel comfortable enough to want to post. I am very glad I did, have met some great people and hopefully get the chance to meet more.

Not sure really why I lurked. I probably did it for 6 months or so before joining. Guess it depends on
what kind of personality you have. I am naturally withdrawn and quiet so I just kind of sat back, read
and observed before throwing my hat into the ring. Initially there were some topics that I wanted to
comment on and was tempted and after a while I figured I had nothing to lose. After all, there was no
way I was going to meet any of these people anyway, right? Very glad that I did it and hard to believe
that my 5yr anniversary is coming up next month. Happy to be a small part of the community and
really have enjoyed all the people I have met at the events attended.

Pretty sure I started posting right away on the old board.

I think some people lurk because this place can be intimidating....every new person is gonna be accused of being a mult or won't get respected because of the lack of posts. You just gotta get in where you fit in around here...like merging on to the Kennedy at Lake St...(scary)

My first application was never approved. After a couple weeks, I emailed the admin to see if I could get it approved and never got an answer back. I figured that you must have to know somebody to be able to signup.

A couple months later, I tried again. I picked a name based on a movie I had watched the night before. I didn't give the name much thought since I didn't think it would get approved anyway. It was approved pretty much right away.

First heard about this place from listening to Mac mention it a few times on the show, and when I realized you could post anonymously and talk shit to and about people you would otherwise not have the balls to say to them in real life I knew this was the place for me so I started posting right away.

Lurked for a year. Reasons:
1. People had been here since 2005 so felt weird joining when clear friendships and groups had been established.

2. Debated whether I wanted to become one of those "internet cretins"

3. I have bad sport's thoughts other than Packers which for CSFMB shouldn't jibe but it does.

4. I had started my 1st ever grown man job and was nervous about being caught posting on a board (especially as unique as this one can be sometimes).

When I started at my current company in 2007, I let the other Owners know that I was doug - evergreen park and had "responsibilities" (my Dad was one of the Owners at the time). Radio at our Company is actually an interesting thing. One of our President's daughters is an anchor on 780 and his other daughter married a former Ennis Communications Exec. So, my posting is completely tolerated given the nature of our industry and those relationships. Plus, we worked on Waddle's house.

After about a week of listening to ESPN over cubicle walls, one of the other engineers figured it out after an email I sent had been read;
"wait...your name is doug and you just moved from evergreen park..."

a guy in the cubicle behind me hit his "EASY" button. :D

You should have said you were Elmhurst Steve. They would have kissed your ring and threw flower petals at your feet.

I created an id and posted once because of a specific issue. Then I think I lurked for about two years. To be honest, this can be an intimidating place. Ever notice how quickly one gets attacked for saying something outside mainstream thought or just because people like to be Devil's Advocates? That why I took so long to post. Now I just don't care....and I love this place.

I lurked for about 2-3 years when I still enjoyed B&B. I thought the forum was really funny with the gifs and silly banter but have no interest in contributing to that since you guys pretty much have that perfected. It also seems like one wrong sentence can get you into some sort of board war which once again I have no interest in getting in. I registered because even though hockey gets shit on pretty good on this forum, the people who do enjoy it seem to be passionate about it and I respect their opinions. I wanted to mingle with the hockey gays. I have some football and baseball thoughts as well but nothing that's really worth posting other than how Russell Wilson is the greatest QB to ever play the game which I will make sure the whole forum is fully aware of come football season.

 I thought of that. JORR is my guy now....if you're reading this, I am going to be posting the PP's for the Fla and La Derby's this weekend.

I lurked for a little while. I finally started posting and was deleted on suspicion of multing. I re-created the account and have been here ever since.

Beni Hanna was the first person to be nice to me and not treat me like a mult. He will always hold a special place in my posting heart.

JORR paid someone to play the role of JORR. The "Most Interesting Man on CSFMB" was out partying with the Stones.

Terrible. Probably shouldn't wager this weekend, but I've got Derby fever. And as I mentioned in the Derby thread I just created, my Derby favorite horse Revolutionary is racing this weekend after a 2 month break...been looking forward to seeing him race since then.

Post subject:  Re: Lurking?

Lurked for 2-3 years, partly because of the insular nature of the board and its many inside jokes, (for example I had no idea WTF a "spark" or "kamps" was) and partly because I am only a casual sports fan with no particular allegiances. But really I was drawn and eventually compelled to post because of my increasing dissatisfaction with the B&B show.
