Anyone ever done it? I am not talking Bering Sea shit...yet...but there is a place in Indiana, they claim has some gold and you can pan for some. I don't see anyone getting rich, but seems interesting. I did get info on going full into the Nome, Alaska program. It's about $1000 a week, seems that people claim they get about 1-3 Oz a day, from a 12 hour day of digging. So, that is $1600-$4800 a day if true. Seems really no frills. Sleep in a "Hooch" as they call it (With 5 other people), you get a plywood bunk, no electricity int he village from 10PM to 6 AM, have a wood burning stove for heat. They serve 3 meals a day in the mess hall. The give you an ATV, Buckets, Shovels, pans and have a guy that will sleuth for you if you bring it to the cabin, or you can do it on the beach. 2 Weeks cost $2000, plus airfare $1000, extra $1000 = $4000 assumed 1.5 OZ day for 12 days = $28,800 Who is in? We can rent a HOOCH! OK, if I paid, who would go? you get 50% of your share, I get the other 50% for staking the operation! |

From everything I saw, nothing even remote to think of a vacation. Dreary, rainy, wet, gray skies, cold, windy is basically your day. You do get to eat some good food. Fresh char, salon, elk, crab, which is just due to that food being easier to supply than chicken, burgers, dogs, etc. Hard to sleep as you only get about 4 hours of dusk, the bunk is literally a plywood bunk, so you need your own mattress, sleeping bag. Fact being, you could spend 2 weeks there and get nothing. There is Friday Nights, when they serve spaghetti and garlic bread and have LIVE entertainment. Feel good in saying it is nobody you ever heard of...
