Who are the worst coaches in Chicago History?

These are my initial nominees:

Cubs - Mike Quade
Sox - Terry Bevington
Hawks - Alpo Suhonen
Bulls - Vinny Del Negro
Bears - Dave Wannstedt

Tim Floyd & Bill Cartwright should be considered for the Bulls.

IMO Vinny was worse than Floyd. Floyd was real bad, but he had absolutely nothing to work with. Can you imagine Vinny with that roster?

Pretty much every Bulls coach between Jackson & Thibadeau was bad. Scott Skiles was probably the exception.

Post January 1986, Ditka.

He helped wreck arguably the greatest team in Chicago history. What he did wasn't just hypocritical, self serving and craven. What he did verged on the meatball criminal.

Abe Gibron... .268 lifetime winning percentage and the Bears never finished higher than last in the division.

Skiles was/is also bad. The only difference was that Skiles had a roster of try-hard guys who played way above his coaching. But he grated on them just like he does everyone else, and they just could no longer deal with his weirdness, his assholeness, and his "throw my hands up in the air and say fuck it" attitude.

Can we put assistants in there? If so, I say John Shoop

How that guy got another job at any level is a mystery to me.

I think the Quade hate is due to freshness

Trebelhorn was awful

Most of the guys in the 70's and 80's were awful. Not that Quade is good, but...

Bruce Kimm, Jim Lefebvre, Trebbelhorn, yikes, the Cubs had a bunch of terrible managers in the 90's.

Quade is very low on the list of bad Cubs managers. Hell, they played better for him in 2010 than they did for Lou.

Overall, there is Wanstedt and Bevington (interchangeable at #1), and then everybody else. I bet no Cub manager signaled to an empty bullpen for a reliever to enter the game.

The Cubs started the year losing their first 10 home games, causing new manager Tom Trebelhorn to conduct a "Town Hall" meeting on a park bench in front of the fire station on Waveland Avenue

 Thats pretty bad, but still didn't happen during a game. Besides if the team was 0-10 at home, I doubt they were very good regardless of who the manager was.

My opinion of Skiles really soured when the same thing finally happened in Milwaukee, and when I read here that he won't coach college because he thinks he's too good for a lesser hotel circuit. Like, seriously, dude, you're made for coaching college. Suck it up and live in Nebraska if you have to, and you probably do have to because no one is going to give you an NBA job again.

That said, I don't think it's fair to say the Bulls "played above his coaching." That makes it sound like they did everything themselves and just happened to have a screaming bald man standing around them all the time. Some of their early overachievement has to be attributed to his coaching.
