You can have any number of millions but for every million you take, you lose 5 years off your life.

How much are you taking?

I would take 1 and stop. That 1 million would pay off the house and car, leaving the only bills to be paid the standard utilities/insurance/taxes.

That frees up a lot of money that you could do a lot of living to make up for those 5 years you're gonna lose at the end...when you're probably shitting yourself and referring to your nurse as "mommy" anyway.

None. I want those five years to spend with my kids. More money does not equal more happiness.

What if for every million, you jump ahead 5 years in age from today? Same?

With that one, I would say no...but that's more due to the fact that my fiance and I are looking to start a family, and I would rather be the 35 year old with an infant than the 40 year old with an infant....My dad had my brother later in life, and I see the struggles he has keeping up with an 8 year old at 55...I don't want that to even be an issue when it comes to being able to do activities and shit with my kids.

1. If you get $1 million clear and use it very wisely, there is no reason why you can't set yourself up for life. You won't be filthy rich, but you could pay off your house, student loans, car, and other bills while living pretty comfortably thru wise/low risk investments.

Wow. Not what I expected.

We have some very happy well adjusted people here.

I kinda view those last years as "Not that great"

What if it were one year per million?

You guys still hold strong?

I might do 2, certainly no more than 3. With 2 or 3 I could set my parents up for life, including getting them into one of the "good" nursing homes for the last years of their life.

Oh and let's remember that money helps in keeping one healthy

If things go bad and you lose your job or you or your family get sick, the money might come in handy.

I would probably take a million and sacrifice the last five years.

I would probably make those five years back anyway

I don't think I'll have need for those last five years. I'll probably outlive my spouse (but not in the good way where there will be lots of hot, reasonably young, secondary market poon ready to jump on a grieving widower), my kids will be old, their kids will be kind of old. I will probably be just taking up space. The extra million could be used well to enhance the active years of my life.

See, that's what Im saying

1 million = wise choice
2 million = getting greedy
3 million = you hate your life

Why are you assuming you're gonna live to like 80 or 90? If I'm gonna die in a car accident or something 10 years from now, those five years are pretty damn important.

If I get to assume that I'll live to 80 or older, than yes I'd take the money.

If I knew for sure that I would live to 95, then I would go ahead and take $2 million, and only live to 85. 85 is a pretty long run.

There is a lot of heart disease in my family. My father died last year at age 66 from a heart attack. His father died from emphysema at 51. That is why I originally said I would keep the years.

We live forever. I'd be shocked to not make 90. I cannot wait to be a 75 year old calling in to the Jason Bernstien show incredulous over the pussification of flag football.

That's why I think Dr. Ken's idea is more intriguing (skip ahead vs. lose it at the end).

There was an interesting article in the WSJ recently about Ray Kurzweil, who has invented various things (including the synthesizer bearing his name) and now works with Google. He believes that in 15 years, we will be able to begin extending life expectancies to the point where "immortality" is not out of the question. Of course, this immortality involves exporting your brain's content to a computer where it can be backed up to prevent deletion/death and your physical existence would be through some kind of avatar.

I would take $50 million, buy whatever house is next to Michael Jeffrey Jordan's house, get invited over for dinner, leave an upper decker in his master bathroom, tell his fiance there is no Santa Claus and die a happy man.

YOU TELL HIM.  YOU TELL HIM I SAID IT.

Assuming i would live to 80, i would take 10 million and set my kids/grandkids up for a good long time. I think that would make me happier then being a possible burden (depending on health) to them for the last 10 years of my life. I would die happy.
