I'm guessing that most steps a 21st Century American takes during his or her regular day are the result of advertising.

Have to walk to work because I fell for the Kars 4 Kids (that's Kars with a "K") ad :(

How many people know that Kars 4 Kids is actually a front for promoting Jewish orthodoxy?

Most steps I take are the result of my legs.

I wake up and take a shower. I use generic body wash that smells vaguely like Old Spice.
I brush my teeth. Chances are Im using a toothpaste that was on sale or was a BOGO.
Put on my clothes or uniform. I bought the Wranglers I did because they were $17 and I get a $100 a season allowance for jeans and I can get 5 pair for that rather than the 2 if I bought Levi's.
My coffee is 8 o'clock coffee. I don't know that i've ever seen an ad for it.
I drive to work in my company truck, or I'll head out in my Tacoma if personal business.
My lunch is genreally made of Aldi wheat bread and Aldi lunchmeat. Some Diet Coke. I buy diet coke because it's the best tasting diet except maybe Diet Mountain Dew but DW doesn't like diet Mt. Dew.
When I go home I turn on my UVerse. It's uverse because it's what's available in my neighborhood.
Dinner is usually Aldi chicken or beefs. Sometimes I go to the butchers in mchenry and buy steaks or ribs. It's a family owned shop.
Bed.

Pretty sure not much of my day is driven by advertising.

I ran out of "Frank Sponsored" toothpaste.
It's usually Aquafresh or Crest. That shit is always on sale.

Well, I'm not trying to be a penis about it. I just don't find that much of my purchases are advertising based.
Even the truck I bought wasn't my first choice but dictated by a dickhead salesman at Victor Ford who drove me right the fuck out of the showroom with his shit attitude or I'd be in a 150.
!

Well what daily activities do you suspect are driven by advertising? What are you looking for, or what do you think were my daily activities driven by advertising?

Everything but only because I typically always by whatever is the cheapest. So if you are advertising something for cheap, I'm buying it.

What's the endgame here?

Are we looking for a deeper, introspective look into the construct of our psyche's and how they have been shifted over the course of our lives in this current generation via subliminal advertising that is tailor made and tested to appeal to certain demographics?

Is that what we are getting at here?

Just a discussion.

Just the fact that you use toothpaste is due to advertisers "creating a need". Nobody needs toothpaste. It doesn't clean your teeth. A plain brush does that. But advertisers have convinced us that we will have bad breath without their product. And then we won't get laid. Just like they have convinced women that they need to shampoo their pussies which are self-cleaning. But without a douche they have been convinced that they are "not so fresh".

Also, how does buying things you "don't need" equate to being affected by advertising?
I mean, I have an HD TV, but is it because of advertising? I don't really think it is. No one "needs" a microwave if they have an oven/stove. But we've all got them. Is that because of advertising?
I bought an LED Mini Maglight today. It's because the standard Xenon maglite i had wasn't really all that bright. Thought I'd upgrade.

You don't need that flashlight, you mindless materialistic drone. Just work during the day or use a complex set of mirrors to reflect the Sun's light to where you need it.

Be your own man, go your own way.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that.
You kinda do need toothpaste. Floride? You don't prevent cavities with a wet brush. I use toothpaste because I'm not into the pain of decaying teeth.
And I dunno, I knew a girl who allowed her pussy to "self clean" and I couldn't hardly get near that thing.

There's no endgame. I just got to thinking about this when I was posting in the teen sex thread. One of the major differences between a teenager today and one circa 1900 is the types of advertising the modern teen has been exposed to his/her entire life.

Most people don't even think about advertising or its effect on them. They act as if it's innocuous. In fact, it's insidious and borderline evil. One thing for certain, it isn't done for the benefit of the buyer. Advertsing is far from an altruistic pursuit.

A mirror? You're an overprivlidged capitalistic swine!
What's wrong with polished brass shields, like the ancients, who interestingly enough, knew the aliens well enough to have them build them pyramids but didn't have the balls to ask them for some lighting tips.
Perhaps the aliens never worked out that illumination thing.

Did the "Just say no" or the "This is your brain on drugs" ad campaigns work on us?
I don't think so.
It made me want to smoke weed. Then fry an egg and some sausage to quell them munchies.
