I know many of you attend or help with fundraising for various organizations. I'm helping with one and would love some ideas and advice on what works, what doesn't, what sells, and how to organize it. Raffles, live and silent auctions, stick pull/balloon pop, experiences, giving tree, heads/tails games, bet on something, "drink" to win a prize, and wine grab, are all things we are kicking around. Thanks!

And yes, (good dolphin), I'm fully aware of what I was, what I am, and what I am becoming. Ain't life grand!

Funny responses are welcomed, but make them funny. Don't waste my time with lame humor.

I am part of a booster club in our community that has a big event every year to raise money. Have seen lots of things done, but the 2 that stand out to me that were the most successful for our group are these:

1. Trivia Night. Had teams pay a fee to enter the contest. Had a prize for the winners. Had auctions going on throughout the night for a variety of things that were donated by businesses throughout the area.

2. Group Yard Sale. Just had this one a couple weeks back. People who are a part of the group donated items for the sale. Did not raise quite as much as the Trivia night, but it was a lot less work.

I hear ya, all those ideas are attached or going on at a Trivia Night.

Trivia night you can sell boosters -- $10 bucks and if your answer isn't right you can pick another one. That sort of thing.

We did a Sandy Relief benefit last December, with a local collective of artists and DJ/Producers. Granted, we had a lot of "art objects" (paintings, DJ mixes, music tracks, digital art pieces, etc) that were donated by those who created them. We had a Silent auction the night of the event with the works that were physically at the event, but also hosted digital images on a website that people could view (which allows people not physically at the event themselves to view and submit bids by email, etc.).
You would probably have to discuss the logistics of the online aspect of this with someone affiliated with your group that had some basic technical proficiency to do this). The gist is you have a deadline date and a bid expectation, the great thing about art objects is that people will value them differently and it is entirely subjective) that people at the event can bid on as well as online viewers, with the item in question going to the highest bidder. We also hosted a catered buffet the night of the event, which tickets were sold through via Eventbrite. People could view the art, eat dinner, and rock out to musical performances, real classy like... then buy the music they were experiencing. i think many were impressed with our presentation (was also done in conjunction with a local Church, in the basement) so we were able to sell it within the parish community, as well as just people interested in our efforts.

The link below was the program we used at the event, just to give you an idea. I'll go further in detail into this if you PM me or something, I'm a bit drinky at this posting  but thought it might at least give you some food for thought.

That's cool. Who was the target group? Was it art lovers, church community, friends of the artists, etc? Did the artists make whatever they wanted, have to appeal to a demographic, have a theme?

Anybody know how a thing like www.charityfundraisingpackages.com works?

I'd suggest a chili cookoff, but cold chili kind of sucks. Maybe a vegetable and cheese plate contest?

One of the biggest ones around us is a beer tasting, usually about 400 people attend and you can make about $10,000.00 or so.

I'll donate $20 if you pm me some racey pictures (not racist pictures like I get from brian and ugie).

What are you trying to raise money for?

Sell Christmas trees. You can make some money, it is something everyone is going to buy anyway and it gets the community involved.

Whatever you do, you want to make sure it is low overhead so almost every dollar you make is donated. An Oktoberfest is a good way to get people together and make them aware of the cause while dropping $50-100 for $25 worth of food and beer.

Make a deal with a restaurant where they will donate 10% of what they make in a night to your cause and then get everyone to go that day.

Have some black kids sell candy by the El stop. People always buy from them.
