I wonder who the highest-paid NCAA athlete is? My guess would be one of the BCS players from Alabama or other SEC school, or possibly from FSU out of the ACC. Steve Spurrier may know, as he's commented on the luxury rides his opponents' players have in their parking lots...! LOL |

The highest paid NCAA athlete is the Irish player who took out life insurance policies on Declan Sullivan and Lizzy Seeberg. |

I can see that David Haugh has moved his ND slamming from the SB Tribune right to the Chicago Trib. There's someone who never made a mistake in his life. We got rid of that pr!ck only to find that he's poisoned Chicagoland. It's funny that so much of Chicago is anti-ND, yet every time ND hosts a home game, there's an endless parade of vehicles from the area. And I seriously doubt that they're full of fans coming to see Wake Forest, Navy, Air Force, Pitt, and Temple...! |

I'm actually a Notre Dame fan, but ND has no place talk down to any other teams about integrity or doing things the right way, maybe Penn State, but that's it. |

While there are certainly people in Chicagoland who dislike Notre Dame, they do so because of all the people here who do like Notre Dame. Adopting a sports team because of your religion is a good way to engender resentment. |

Adopting a sports team because of your religion is a good way to engender resentment. Aside from the religious aspect this is exactly why I despise ND. Well there is the arrogance but mostly this. South Bend is not a Chicago suburb. ND is not a Chicago or Illinois school. Also, they give a giant shit about your silly Chicago Irish stuff. I really resent the coverage as such especially by media. |

South Bend is connected to Chicago by commuter rail, so it's more like a satellite of Chicago, kind of like Kenosha or Joliet. It's closer to the city than most big-time sports universities in the state of Illinois. |

Here's a little background so you can see where I'm coming from: I grew up less than 2 mi from Notre Dame and have never lived any farther out than that. My dad was an ardent Cubs fan since circa 1938, and I spent many hours watching WGN's coverage with him. I remember Lee Elia's tirade, the Milo Hamilton/Harry Caray feud, and much more. I've always been most interested in NCAA Football, so I paid close attention for example when The Sportswriters talked about ND. I also used to watch as many Illini games as I could (mainly the Mike White era) and I never missed things like The Dennis Green Show (when DG was coaching the Wildcats). Lately I haven't seen as much Chicago TV sports coverage as I used to (I no longer catch channels 2, 5, 7, 9, 11 -- just 2 and 9 on really clear nights), or listened to as much radio as before. I suppose it's partly due to the dominance of Bears coverage, which doesn't interest me as much. From the posts I'd seen here, it seemed like the Irish were far from popular, so I'm glad to see some fans on these boards after all. I apologize in advance if I come off as very defensive of ND. As I mentioned on another thread, I'm still interested in what Illinois and Northwestern are up to these days, and of course I want to see the Bulls, Bears, Sox, and Cubs do well. Here in South Bend, people like me pretty much hang our hats on ND performances. We all know that Mike Brey will never take the Irish to a Final Four, but it's still nice to dream. Spending $30 million on a hockey arena is news, but we're looking for a revival of how things were when the Irish had the best in coaching. ND's biggest problem has been in the form of bonehead administrators. Let's not forget Holtz' comment about "the organ-grinder and the monkey." Most of ND's problems were due for example to Monk Malloy nixing Rick Majerus for a specious reason back when Rick showed interest here. Very frustrating. |

As if it wasn't bad enough with the football players, now local ladies have to worry about Kaner skeezing around after Hawks training camp there. |
