I'll put this out there as it bugs me to no end. Al Lesar, SB Tribune sports columnist, has predicted the following losses for the 2013 Notre Dame Football season (I'm pretty sure these were the 5):

@ Michigan (okay, we all saw that fiasco)
Oklahoma - home
Arizona St. - at Cowboys Stadium
USC - home
@ Stanford

The same paper whose radio station touts itself as "the home of Notre Dame football" goes with an outrageously biased prediction in the other direction. Maximize profits off of ND while always looking to place them in the most negative light -- that's what the SB Tribune has in mind. I guess they realize they're about 50 years too late to criticize any other large area employer, like Studebaker, so why not infuriate Irish fans.

Somehow I don't believe Al would be willing to wager that the Irish will drop that many games -- all of the remaining ones except @ Stanford look pretty winnable.

Okay, I'll try not to contaminate the place with non-Chicago. I had to make an exception this time though. Five losses against good but not great competition? An outrageous prediction for a team with several top defenders and coming off a 12-0 regular season in 2012.

The determinism of college football scheduling is another thing that makes it weird. Why should it be so unconscionable that a team may lose a bunch of games it should win? It happens in other sports every damn year.

Predicting a team that's lost 5 (five) games in 5 (five) of the last 6 (six) years to lose 5 (five) games? How disrespectful.

We're talking regular season. Kelly lost 4 regular season games in 2011, not 5, and iirc 2010 was an 8-win season as well. Regardless, of those seasons you mention, Charlie Weis was responsible for most of them.

I'd appreciate a correction, but as I indicated under Kelly, the records have been 8 wins, 8 wins, and 12 wins.

You're right, ND is so super the best that no reasonable person could ever justify predicting they'll lose five games.

I'll repeat that this is my first time on these boards. If you don't believe me, ask an administrator to check. I never even saw the 670 site until today...!

Sports Illustrated ranked ND #8 to start the season. So Al Lesar of the SB Tribune knows so much about them that he predicts a mediocre season? As I said, let's see him put some money where that big mouth is. No way do they drop more than 3 regular season games this year.

I'll be back in November to see whose prediction was on the mark. 9-3 at worst, regular season. I'm not trying to run anyone else's team into the ground, but the sked is not all that insurmountable this year.

I think you're putting a little too much stock in preseason rankings, especially for a team historically overrated by them.

I appreciate that. I'm getting a little overwhelmed here. The only place I've posted regularly lately has been on Sitcoms Online -- and the place tends to be so dead that replies wouldn't come for months, if at all.

I posted some stuff on ESPN's boards that I sort of regret, but those Ohio St. fans just drove me insane. Other than that, I have no sports boards experience of note. Book it.
