Amana/Haier is no good either. Will not last.

I have a GE currently that does a good job. But I was always aware of the risk of overheating, so I don't run it for extended periods -- especially when I'm not home -- and I have a smoke detector nearby.

a $100 deposit to my paypal account will make things even with me.

i sort of freaked too when i saw the article, because our cabin at the lake burned down because of a chinese dehumidifier. who knows if it was one under this recall, it happened 5 years ago and the evidence is gone.

but the new one we have is a zenith. its still made in china, but apparently not on this recall list. i dont know, it seems like a good unit. never even gets warm as far as i can tell.

I inherited one from my sister this summer when she moved away- summbitch is the loudest mother fucker on the planet. It would be quieter to idle a huey helicopter in our basement than run this Kenmore piece of shit. I have systematically dismantled the entire unit to find what parts are vibrating together, only to find the parts I just determined were not the problem are now vibrating also. Now I have good reason to trash it!

trash it? kenmore is on the list of recall. just call the number and tell them you bought it two years ago. they will send you $250 in the mail.
