Andrew Anderson, 19, was heartbroken by some of the people who came in to the store "wearing all of the clothes they had," so he would give the neediest shoppers discounts of up to 50 percent on the necessities they bought. But when store officials learned what Anderson was doing ... They fired him and reported him to sheriff's deputies, who arrested him for grand theft.

"Our stores are not around to give a handout — they're around to give people a hand up by providing funding," local spokeswoman Kirsten O'Donnell said. "In incidents like this, we always prosecute."

The first rule of being a cashier is that your drawer has to balance. As a cashier you do not have the authority to adjust prices.

As a human being, however, don't you have the moral authority to help those in need?

If the cashier feels like helping then he should give his own money. If you work at the Jewel you don't have the right to adjust the prices because you feel someone is needy.

He should have been fired and arrested.

Fired, sure. Arresting a 19 year old for Grand Theft? Fuck that. There's someone we really need clogging the prison system. Goodwill dropped the charges at least.
