Post subject:  Dating question

Admittedly, I'm pretty far retired from the dating game, and I was virtually married by the end of college, but we were hanging out at a brewery on Saturday and while doing our tasting we struck up a conversation with a couple who was dating who were also standing at the bar. They were spending a day out but this included going shopping and the man buying the girl some Coach shoes and a new leather jacket. She was even talking about how she posted the shoes on Instagram(I saw the picture because it was very important to her I didn't think she was lying). Is this a standard thing when you are dating a woman? Do you basically go out and buy her stuff? I mean, it was pretty clear that this purchase was getting this guy some action that night but it just seemed a little bit bizarre.

When I was dating, we'd buy things together but mostly for clothes and other stuff she would be pretty much on her own. I think it was different because we were both in college and you aren't getting Coach shoes on the $6 an hour I made as a TA. Maybe you can have what is on sale at Kohl's(so everything in the store).

Can anyone who is still in the game tell me if this is how it is played now?

If you have no game I guess that's how you play.

Hopefully this posts helps some of those people who post on this board then. Coach shoes and 3.5 oz samples of beer can overcome your deficiencies.

Yea, if this is just dating and not a serious relationship someone is trying way too hard.

You know who goes to a brew pub and does a "tasting"?

Depends what "dating" means. Have they been dating for 3 years or 3 weeks? Do they live together? etc....

Seemed like more than a few weeks. I'd guess under a year. They weren't living together.

You could also get your pint glass refilled 12 times like a man or you could exclude all the wheat and fruit bullshit and get to business with a fall dopplebock.

Then I would be afraid I'd throw up all over my new Coach shoes.

If you are dating a girl like that, it is semi or straight up prostitution. I didn't even know Coach made shoes, I thought he only did wine and had the steakhouse.

...seriously I thought they only made purses or clutches or whatnot. I always make sure to date a girl that can afford her own Coach anything if she is into that kind of stuff.

I agree with this, and also pay for most, if not all, dates.

Wait a minute, doing the tastings at breweries is not acceptable? Isn't that pretty much why they have rooms like that?

Not sure.. Never noticed "tasting" rooms at a pub/bar.

I'm not a fan of trying different beers, though

My wife likes wine tastings so maybe i'm missing out

This is the actual brewery where it is basically a bar they set up near the front door of the warehouse. This one did serve pints though.

I see nothing wrong at all with doing a brew tasting. What the hell is wrong with you guys?

find out if they smoke crack and live next door to you, and if they go to ball games rather than watch them on tv. judge accordingly.

I wouldn't recommend dating anyone you meet at the bar.

The bar by me just got a couple new beers on tap. I'm gonna just get a "taste" of all of them .

Wouldn't want to have to drink a whole beer if I'm not 100% committed.
