A family of five gets $700+ in food stamps per month for food alone, and can cover items like lobster and caviar.

What is the Ugie-approved list of foods for food stamp receipents? Porridge? Gruel? The McDonald's dollar menu?

Anything from Aldi, where you can buy Smack N Cheeze and gym shoes in the same aisle.

You can get a lot of food for $700 a month. That seems a bit excessive.

Plus, that's just food stamps. That doesn't include any free school meals, housing assistance or other government funding.

Have you ever tried to feed a family of five on $700 a month, Frank?

I thought so too, but:

700/30=$23.33 dollars per day
23.33/5=$4.60 per person per day

I'm the worst math person in the world, so that might be wrong.

Our family budget is $800 per month for groceries, feeding a family of five. We do raise our own beef, so the majority of our meat is not included in that amount. This does not cover the occasional eating out nor other stuff purchased at the grocery store (HBA, TP, etc), but neither do food stamps. Seems like a workable amount to me, as it is meant to supplement the family income.

Not really, it's actually not that much if you break it down. You must be a single guy with no kids or something?

$4.66 or so per day. I had to budget the hell out of food for a while. We tried to keep the budget under $250/month for two which is about $4.16/day. If the goal is eat a balanced meal at least twice a day that is quite hard to do. If you factor in some families have limited price shopping options that $700/month is probably about right. I was price shopping like a sonobitch.

As much as I can't stand the guy, Floyd Mayweather has only had 2 judges' scorecards not in his favor during his career.

Bret Hanover made 68 starts in his career and only lost 6 times. Once to Cardigan Bay, once to True Duane, and four times to Adios Vic.

Not what I would call a respectable website, but whatever gets you through the day, I guess.

The Chicago area boasts more hot dog restaurants than McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King restaurants combined.

That really isn't a lot of money unless the family is eating $2 pizzas every night. Ugie hates people who aren't doing well.

Yeah, but Little Caesars could fit their budget.
