Didn't want to make the hockey people mad by putting it in that section. Anybody have a kid that plays? They switched it to half ice for at least the beginning of this year statewide, I'm seeing if everybody is following that. And how do you feel about it?

I feel that kids who play hockey are usually those that grow up to be pampered puds.

I'm sure you are gearing up for lacrosse season in the spring.

I thought the change was put in place earlier than that? And pretty sure its nationwide, not just Illinois. I like it. The idea behind it is that by dividing the rink into thirds you can get more kids on the ice for one. Also, at that age they really don't need the whole ice, it ends up being a breakaway contest with the fastest skater on each team going end to end. With the half ice it forces the kids to play in traffic and develop more skills and vision for the game.

They played full ice last year. Some of the more skilled or quicker forwards were breakaway prone. I named one kid on our team the black hole.

More puck touches for each player due to smaller space/Better develops puck handling skill & confidence was the selling point for this change. Initially, it sounded great but I don't think so after watching a couple games. It's literally a 4 on one everytime somebody gets the puck. Because of the small space there is no reason to pass, you are not far from the net at any given time and you might have to beat 2 guys that have no time to chase you down if they get beat. There is no defense played, because they don't have room. There is no time to make decisions about where you should be or get to where you need to be because a play never develops. It's face off, skate 3 steps, shoot. The kids are too big. The scores of the game are 10-12.

Next time a lightbulb burns out, I'll call you to have you and your family over to change it.

We'll chat the next time I see you.

JJ Watt played junior hockey up until high school, always led whatever league he was in in scoring.
He stopped playing after he found out it would
cost btw 4-6$K per season for him to continue playing.
