There is a Porter and Portage IN. Let's not confuse these two fine Northwest Indiana communities. |

The main thing everyone knows about is how they're anti-Illinois. They HATE Illinoians and according to my Grandma, it's not just a myth. She says some of her friends even pretend they're Wisconsin. She says there's no need for that though as long as you just make an effort to give a shit about their ways, which is something I guess that most Illinois tourists don't do. You say you know some Hillbilly, which is great. Use it. Even if you try to speak in awful, broken twang, they'll appreciate the effort and be nicer to you. She's seen a citizen point an Illinoian in the wrong way to after asking directions because the Illinoian was speaking in English in an normal way (Like why are you such a toothless hillbilly, bitch tone). Be nice and respectful towards their culture and all will be good. You should have a great time being into farm animals and spit tobacco and all. I've always wanted to go. Oh, and yea, leave the white gym shoes at home. |

Hit that exit for last cheap gas/cigarettes (don't smoke, but ya know) and a car wash before the Tollway and always see that place and wonder what goes on in there. I think there's a Starbuck's there too? Maybe not. Once time late on Sunday/early Monday AM I was parked right up by the Family Express clearing out the empty jerky bags and screw top Miller Lite cans and other detritus of a long road trip and there was this red Pontiac Sunbird parked across the way next to the closed Quaker Steak & Lube. After a couple minutes, the red Pontiac fires up and comes driving across the street and parks right next to my car. It's some vaguely late teens/early 20's looking blonde chick and she sits there looking at me making trips to the trash can like I'm supposed to say something or recognize her. |

While a newbie to the boards, I have been a listener and occasional caller to MJH for a while now. Won Blackhawk tix (waiting for the "We're happy for ya") from S&C a few weeks back. Anyway, in case Mac is reading this thread, wanted to give you my first brush with the "Dangerous One" - kind of funny, but I am sure he doesn't remember. Me and a buddy were working out at Omni41 a number of years back. I had been a casual listener to Mac's early work with Chet and Dahl, etc, but I wouldn't have recognized him on the street, but my buddy was a huge fan. Guy by the name of Tim Flenor who I think went to school with Dan. He said that was Dangerous Dan McNeil and Dan asked for a spot. Actually had a nice little conversation about the Region and such - I was more an observer than an actual participant, but it was nice to hear a little region talk. The thing about Mac and the guys that I like and think will propel them continuously in the ratings is that it is real for them - it's never contrived or forced. While the feelings sometimes boil over the top, it's much like heated arguments we have all had with siblings or friends. When you put three guys with that kind of passion in the same room(s) for hours at a time, there are bound to be flair-ups. Anyway guys, just wanted to say hello and hopefully I will be able to contribute just a smidge to the witty banter that occurs here on a daily basis. |

Everytime I go to that Starbucks it is loaded with hot professional babes. Quaker Steak & Lube is not. |
